A. Analyze Particles.
(a) Any quantity of material that is less than or equal to 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in all dimensions is a serviceable condition.
(b) Refer to CFM NDT manual Part 10 "CFMI-TP.NT.11" or 856A2683G01 CFMI SOFTWARE FOR MCD IDENTIFICATION to identify the possible source or refer to
for examples of shapes that may be seen on a EMCD or on magnetic bar.
(c) Examine the magnetic particles.
1 Use a 10x hand-held magnifying lens and a magnetic bar to examine the magnetic particles for the material which is larger than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in any dimension:
2 Compare the magnetic particles found with the descriptions in
to identify the particles, their potential source from within the engine, and the recommendation. To identify the particles, take into consideration the sump from which the particles were found, their size and the physical descriptions in the Tables.
Following the recommendations of the Tables, do this tasks:
(d) Examine the non-magnetic particles.
1 Use a 10x hand-held magnifying lens to examine the non-magnetic particles for the material which is larger than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in any dimension:
2 Compare the non-magnetic particles found with the descriptions in
to identify the particles, their potential source from within the engine, and the recommendation. To identify the particles, take into consideration the sump from which the particles were found, their size and the physical descriptions in the Tables. Following the recommendations of the Tables, do this tasks:
(e) Analysis of Particles found following Ground Run for Additional Particle Collection (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-281-006).
1 If no magnetic particles are found from this ground run on either the EMCD or the magnetic bars:
a Check EMCD/magnetic bars after each flight until the laboratory results are known.
b The optional magnetic bars may remain installed for 5-cycles or 25-hours.
c If you find magnetic particles greater than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) on any check following these flights:
a Engine operation is limited to 5 flights until the laboratory results are known.
b The optional magnetic bars may remain installed for 5-cycles or 25-hours
c Check EMCD/magnetic bars after each flight until the laboratory results are known.
5. Close-upWARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
(1) Examine the particles from the EMCD, magnetic bar, if installed, and scavenge screen to identify the physical properties of the material (shape, size, quantity, magnetic properties, color) to be used in the following analysis.

Following the recommendations of the Tables, do this tasks:
- Replace the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-000-042) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-400-042)
- Replace the TGB (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-00-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-00-400-002)
- Replace the AGB (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-000-003) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-400-003).
NOTE: If magnetic particles cannot be identified, for further action refer to the Figure
3 The particles can be sent to a laboratory for material identification. After a laboratory has done the material identification, you can also use that information to further confirm the magnetic particles found. (d) Examine the non-magnetic particles.
1 Use a 10x hand-held magnifying lens to examine the non-magnetic particles for the material which is larger than 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) in any dimension:
