BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 78-36-51-010-081-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.

B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.

(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle Maintenance
4. ProcedureWARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807). Subtask 78-36-51-420-056-A
A. Installation of the Actuator Fitting of the Thrust Reverser Cowl Opening System (COS)
(1) Prepare the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(a) Use a TEMPLATE to mark and record the positions of the holes of the screws (9) on the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(c) Deburr the holes.
(d) Temporarily install the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position on the thrust reverser.
(e) Make sure that the holes of the fittings and thrust reverser are correctly aligned.
(f) Remove the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(g) Drill the holes for the screws (9) in the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) to the final diameter 3.3 mm (0.13 in.).
(h) Deburr the holes.
(2) Install the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(a) Clean the screws (9) and the contact surfaces of the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Acetone - (Material No.08BBH1) .
(b) Dry the area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before solvent becomes gas.
(c) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Landing Gear (Material No.06LDG5) on the contact surfaces of the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(d) Put the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position on the thrust reverser.
(e) Make sure that the holes of the fittings and thrust reverser are correctly aligned.
(f) Hold the COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position.
(g) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Landing Gear (Material No.06LDG5) on the screws (9).
(h) Install the screws (9) to attach the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) to the thrust reverser.
(i) TORQUE the screws (9) to between 0.495 and 0.405 m.daN (43.81 and 35.84 lbf.in )

(3) Install the bolts (1) and (4) to attach the P-clamps (2) and (5) with the flexshafts (3) and (6) to the thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-44-400-802).
(4) Install the thrust reverser COS actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-51-400-802).
5. Close-up(1) Prepare the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(a) Use a TEMPLATE to mark and record the positions of the holes of the screws (9) on the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
NOTE: You can use the removed COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) as a template.
(b) Pre-drill the holes for the screws (9) to diameter 2.5 mm (0.10 in.). (c) Deburr the holes.
(d) Temporarily install the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position on the thrust reverser.
(e) Make sure that the holes of the fittings and thrust reverser are correctly aligned.
(f) Remove the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(g) Drill the holes for the screws (9) in the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) to the final diameter 3.3 mm (0.13 in.).
(h) Deburr the holes.
(2) Install the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(a) Clean the screws (9) and the contact surfaces of the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Acetone - (Material No.08BBH1) .
(b) Dry the area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before solvent becomes gas.
(c) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Landing Gear (Material No.06LDG5) on the contact surfaces of the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8).
(d) Put the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position on the thrust reverser.
(e) Make sure that the holes of the fittings and thrust reverser are correctly aligned.
(f) Hold the COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) in position.
(g) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Landing Gear (Material No.06LDG5) on the screws (9).
(h) Install the screws (9) to attach the new COS actuator fittings (7) and (8) to the thrust reverser.
(i) TORQUE the screws (9) to between 0.495 and 0.405 m.daN (43.81 and 35.84 lbf.in )
. (3) Install the bolts (1) and (4) to attach the P-clamps (2) and (5) with the flexshafts (3) and (6) to the thrust reverser (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-44-400-802).
(4) Install the thrust reverser COS actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-51-400-802).
Subtask 78-36-51-440-057-A
A. Do the reactivation of the thrust reverser system after nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-807).
Subtask 78-36-51-410-067-A B. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

(3) Remove the access platform(s).
(4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
