3. Job Set-up
Subtask 78-32-79-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL 438AR.
     (b) FOR [1000EM2] (ENGINE-2)
447AL 448AR.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivate the thrust reverser.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

D. Remove the hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-000-010).
4. Procedure

B. Clean the repair area
   (1) Clean the repair area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.
14SBA1) made moist with V01-076Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade.
   (2) Wipe the surface dry before the cleaning fluid evaporates.

C. Prepare the new retainer for installation
   (1) Align the retainer (48) on the pressure bulkhead
   (2) Use the MACHINE - DRILLING to backdrill the rivet holes to between 0.125 in. (3.18 mm) and 0.129 in. (3.28 mm).
   (3) Remove the burrs from the drilled holes.

D. Install the retainer and seal
AIPC 78-32-79-88
   (1) Put the retainer (48) on the pressure bulkhead and wet install the rivet (49) and/or (50) with the primer (Material No.
V08-032) . Wipe off all unwanted primer with a lint free cloth made moist with the V01-076Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade.
   (2) Install the seal (47).
     (a) Apply a coat of the cold curing silicone compound (Material No.V08-043) to the inside of the retainer (48).
     (b) Insert the seal in to the retainer before the cold curing silicone compound cures. Trim all unwanted material from the retainer edge.
     (c) Apply cold curing silicone compound (Material No.V08-043) cold curing silicone compound (Ref. 70-30-00) to the edges of the seal. Allow the cold curing silicone compound to cure for 30 minutes at room temperature.

E. Visually examine the completed repair to make sure that the requirements of this repair procedure are done.

F. Write VRS2118 adjacent to the assembly number on the C-duct to show that the repair has been done. Use a marking pen (Material No.V06-131) of a color which is different than the background.

A. Install the hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-400-010).

   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).

D. Operational Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the thrust reverser system (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-041).
NOTE: As an alternative procedure, you can do the operational test without the CFDS (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-041).
