A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivate the thrust reverser.
Subtask 78-32-49-010-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). D. Open the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):

Subtask 78-32-49-350-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the worn or damaged seal and retainer
(1) To remove the seal (2) or (6), pull the damaged seal from the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8).
(2) To remove the seal (3), drill out the rivets (9) with MACHINE - DRILLING and remove the retainer (4) and the seal. Do not make the rivet holes larger.
(3) To remove the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8), drill out the rivets (9) and remove the damaged retainer. Do not make the rivet holes larger.
Subtask 78-32-49-110-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) To remove the seal (2) or (6), pull the damaged seal from the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8).
(2) To remove the seal (3), drill out the rivets (9) with MACHINE - DRILLING and remove the retainer (4) and the seal. Do not make the rivet holes larger.
(3) To remove the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8), drill out the rivets (9) and remove the damaged retainer. Do not make the rivet holes larger.
B. Clean the repair area
(1) Clean the repair area with clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist withV01-076 Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Technical grade .
(2) Wipe the surface dry before the cleaning fluid evaporates.

C. Make a new retainer and a new seal

(1) Cut the replacement retainers (1), (4), (5), (7) or (8) to size. Only the damaged part of the retainer must be replaced. Serviceable parts of the retainer may be reused.
(2) Cut the replacement seal (2), (3) or (6) to size.
(3) For the retainer (4) and the seal (3), align the retainer and the seal on the lower track and backdrill the rivet holes to between 0.125 in. (3.18 mm) and 0.129 in. (3.28 mm).
(4) For the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8), align the retainer on the lower track and backdrill the rivet holes to between 0.125 in. (3.18 mm) and 0.129 in. (3.28 mm).
(5) Remove the burrs from the drilled holes.

D. Mixing
(1) Mix the primer converter (Material No.V07-140) and the thinner (Material No.V07-139) . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.

E. Install the retainer
AIPC 78-32-49-86
(1) To install the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8), put the retainer in position on the lower track.
(2) To install the retainer (4) and the seal (3), put the retainer and seal in position on the lower track.
(3) Use the prepared primer and wet install the rivet (9).
(4) Remove all unwanted primer with a clean lint free cloth made moist with methylethylketone .

(1) To install the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8), put the retainer in position on the lower track.
(2) To install the retainer (4) and the seal (3), put the retainer and seal in position on the lower track.
(3) Use the prepared primer and wet install the rivet (9).
(4) Remove all unwanted primer with a clean lint free cloth made moist with methylethylketone .
F. Install the seal

(1) To install the seal (2) or (6), insert the seal in to the retainer (1), (5), (7) or (8).
(2) Trim all unwanted seal material from the retainer edge.

G. Visually examine the completed repair to make sure that the requirements of this repair procedure are done.

(1) Write VRS2053 adjacent to the assembly number on the C-duct to show that the repair has been done. Use a marking pen (Material No.V06-131) of a colour which is different than the background.
