D. Get access
   (1) Manually deploy the transcowl approximately 10 in. (254 mm) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).
   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
   (3) Remove cascades as necessary to get access to the forward seal segment(s) that you will replace (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-000-806) as follows:
     (a) To remove the upper segment of a forward pressure seal, you must remove the No. 1 (blank) cascade (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-43-000-806).
     (b) To remove the No. 1 (blank) cascade, remove the hinge access panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-45-000-801) and the slat clearance panel (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-15-000-801).
     (c) Remove the other cascades as necessary to get access to the seal segment you will replace. It is usually recommended to remove the cascade immediately above and below each seal segment. It is usually recommended to remove every other cascade. There is not a limit to the number of cascades that can be removed at one time.
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-48-020-055-A
A. Removal of the Segment (1) of the Transcowl Pressure Seal
NOTE: This task is given for the left translating-cowl pressure seal. It is applicable to the right translating-cowl pressure seal.
NOTE: This procedure is applicable to pressure seal segment (1). It is also applicable to the other pressure seal segments (3), (4), (26) thru (32).
   (1) Examine the joint between the segment you will remove and the adjacent segment(s). These joints are sealed with a bead of sealant. The upper and lower segments have male ends with a smaller diameter that go into the female ends of the middle segment.
   (2) Record the location of the sealant to help during installation.
   (3) Use a BLADE - RAZOR to cut through the bead of sealant at the joint. Be very careful not to damage the adjacent segment. You can cut the damaged segment into pieces to make removal easier.
   (4) If you remove a middle segment, cut though the joints that connect to the upper and the lower adjected segments.
   (5) The upper end of the upper segment and the lower end of the lower segment are sealed to the acoustic panel (5) with a bead of sealant. Cut through this bead of sealant with a BLADE - RAZOR.
   (6) Record the location of the sealant to help during installation.
   (7) After the beads of sealant are cut, you can remove the segment from the C-channel (2) attached to the transcowl. Hold the damaged seal with your hands and pull the seal out of the C-channel.

PRE SB BD70CR78-005

     (a) Slowly, begin to peel out the seal until completely removed.
     (b) Remove all the remaining unwanted sealant with a BLADE - RAZOR or a SCRAPER - PLASTIC
     (c) You can use ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (Material No.CPNCL02662) on a LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) or a SCOTCH BRITE PADS (Material No.CPNCL02086) to clean the repair area.
     (d) Let the repair area dry.

END OF PRE SB BD70CR78-005

POST SB BD70CR78-005

     (e) Seals are bonded into the C-channel with sealant. Slowly, begin to peel out the seal and use a BLADE - RAZOR to cut this bead of sealant.
     (f) Remove all the remaining unwanted sealant with a BLADE - RAZOR or a SCRAPER - PLASTIC.
     (g) You can use ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL (Material No.CPNCL02662) on a LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) or a SCOTCH BRITE PADS (Material No.CPNCL02086) to clean the repair area.
     (h) Let the repair area dry.
