4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 78-32-35-720-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Functional Test of the Thrust Reverser Latches
   (1) Open the thrust reverser latch and pull the latch handle to the fully open position.
   (2) Removal of the sand and dust particles from the latch:
WARNING: USE A PROTECTIVE EYE SHIELD OR GOGGLES WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR. IF YOU GET HIGH-PRESSURE AIR OR PARTICLES IN YOUR EYES, IN YOUR MOUTH OR ON YOUR SKIN, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: IF THERE IS SAND AND/OR DUST ON THE LATCHES, REMOVE THE CONTAMINATION WITH DRY, COMPRESSED AIR BEFORE YOU ADJUST THE LATCHES. SAND AND DUST IN THE LATCHES CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) If necessary, blow dry with the AIR SOURCE - REGULATED, FILTERED, DRY to remove the sand and dust particles from the latch.
   (3) Measure the closing force for each latch as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the other latches are closed.
     (b) Put the GAGE 45 DAN (100 LBF) - PUSH-PULL at the tool hole located 0.5 in. (12.70 mm) from the edge of the latch handle.
F Thrust Reverser Latch Test ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE LATCHES CLOSE WITH A FORCE OF NO MORE THAN 50 LBF (22.6 KGF). IF THE FORCE IS TOO HIGH, DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (c) Measure the force necessary to close each latch with the GAGE 45 DAN (100 LBF) - PUSH-PULL. Make sure that the GAGE 45 DAN (100 LBF) - PUSH-PULL is perpendicular to the latch handle when you measure the force to close the latch.
1 Make sure that the force necessary to close each latch is between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN). Measure the force on latches in the sequence that follows:
F Thrust Reverser Latch Test ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: Make sure that the other latches are closed before you measure the next latch.
a Measure the force to close the L1A latch.
b Measure the force to close the L1B latch.
c Measure the force to close the L2 latch.
d Measure the force to close the L3 latch.
e Measure the force to close the L4 latch.
f Measure the force to close the L5 latch.
     (d) If the force is not between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN) on a latch, adjust the latch force as follows:
1 Turn the star wheel on the latch to adjust the closing force to between 30 lbf (13.34 daN) and 36 lbf (16.01 daN).
2 Do the Step 4.A.(3) again for each latch to make sure that the latch adjustment did not make another latch to be out of adjustment.
   (4) Close the BLS latch and other open latches, if necessary. Make sure all latches are closed (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-802).
5. Close-up
Subtask 78-32-35-440-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
