WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 77-21-43-010-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):

(2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in the position.

C. Deactivate the thrust reverser.
Subtask 77-21-43-010-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). D. Open the thrust reverser halves (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-010-010):
(1) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

E. Disconnect the EGT harness.
(1) Disconnect the harness from the thermocouples:
(a) Remove the nuts (17) and (19) and the washers (18) and (20) from the thermocouples.
(b) Disconnect the EGT harness from the thermocouples.
(2) Disconnect the harness from the junction box terminals
(b) Remove the nuts (5) and (6) which secure the lugs of the harness (4) to the junction box terminals (2) and (3). Remove the harness lugs from the junction box terminals.
(c) Cut and discard the lockwire and remove the screws (9) which secure the harness clamps (10) and (13). Remove the clamps.
4. Procedure(1) Disconnect the harness from the thermocouples:
(a) Remove the nuts (17) and (19) and the washers (18) and (20) from the thermocouples.
(b) Disconnect the EGT harness from the thermocouples.
(2) Disconnect the harness from the junction box terminals
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
(a) Cut and discard the lockwire and remove the screws (7) which secure the junction box cover. Remove the cover. (b) Remove the nuts (5) and (6) which secure the lugs of the harness (4) to the junction box terminals (2) and (3). Remove the harness lugs from the junction box terminals.
(c) Cut and discard the lockwire and remove the screws (9) which secure the harness clamps (10) and (13). Remove the clamps.

A. Test of the EGT Harness to Check for Continuity
Subtask 77-21-43-820-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: The multimeter and the test leads must be in good condition. The dry cells must be in a condition to give full scale movement for all the positions of the range switch. Make sure that the pin jacks are tight.
NOTE: For POST SB 77-0012 EGT Harness, the continuity check test on the drip loops is not required.

NOTE: There are four thermocouple locations with four leads at each location, which means that sixteen measurements are necessary. |

NOTE: Small movements of the harness during the tests must not cause the meter to move to below one megohm. This can be a sign of a defect and you must reject the harness.
CAUTION:
DO NOT ACCIDENTLY TOUCH THE INSULATION WITH THE INSTRUMENT PROBE.
C. Test of the EGT Harness and Junction Box for Insulation Resistance NOTE: For POST SB 77-0012 EGT Harness, the insulation resistance test on the drip loops is not required.

(2) Connect the harness to the thermocouple probes (Ref. AMM TASK 77-21-15-400-010).
