4. ProcedureSubtask 77-21-15-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Install the EGT thermocouple
(1) Remove the caps from the openings.
(3) Install the thermocouple (4) in to the case. Align the bolt holes in the thermocouple with the bolt holes on the case boss.
(4) Install the two bolts (9).
(5) TORQUE the bolts (9) to between 110 and 90 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.02 m.daN )
.
(6) Safetying of the bolts
(7) Do the procedure again for the other three thermocouples.
(8) Connect the thermocouple harness leads:
(b) Install the harness leads on to the studs (1) and (8).
(c) Install the nuts (3) and washers (11) on to the studs (1).
(d) Install the nuts (7) and washers (10) on to the studs (8).
(e) Tightening of the nuts
.
2 TORQUE the nuts (7) to between 22 and 18 lbf.in (0.25 and 0.20 m.daN )
.
(f) Do the procedure again for the other three thermocouples.
5. Close-up(1) Remove the caps from the openings.
NOTE: The EGT thermocouples are installed through the vanes numbered 3, 6, 8 and 11 of the turbine exhaust case.
(2) Install the two new AIPC 77-21-15-80-030 PISTON RING (5) in to the outer diameter groove of the thermocouple (4). Make sure that the openings in each of the piston rings are in the opposite positions.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THE SAFETY WIRE DOES NOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THERMOCOUPLE STUDS OR EGT HARNESS LEADS. THIS CAN CAUSE ERRATIC OR UNRELIABLE EGT INDICATION.
(a) Safety the bolts with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.V02-141) . (7) Do the procedure again for the other three thermocouples.
(8) Connect the thermocouple harness leads:
CAUTION:
YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE TERMINAL LUG IS ALIGNED AND DOES NOT TOUCH THE INNER SURFACE OF THE COWL WHEN IT IS TIGHTENED TO PREVENT THE EGT HARNESS FROM BEING WORN-OUT WITH THE COWL.
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE LUBRICATION ON THREADS OF THERMOCOUPLE CONNECTIONS. ENGINE OIL CAN CONTAMINATE EGT HARNESS INSULATION MATERIAL AND RESULT IN ERRATIC OR UNRELIABLE EGT INDICATION.
(a) Remove the nuts (3) and (7) and washers (10) and (11) from the terminals. (b) Install the harness leads on to the studs (1) and (8).
(c) Install the nuts (3) and washers (11) on to the studs (1).
(d) Install the nuts (7) and washers (10) on to the studs (8).
(e) Tightening of the nuts
CAUTION:
DO NOT TIGHTEN NUTS MORE THAN MAXIMUM TORQUE. TOO MUCH TORQUE CAN DAMAGE THE THERMOCOUPLE STUDS AND RESULT IN ERRATIC OR UNRELIABLE EGT INDICATION.
1 TORQUE the nuts (3) to between 18 and 15 lbf.in (0.20 and 0.17 m.daN )
. 2 TORQUE the nuts (7) to between 22 and 18 lbf.in (0.25 and 0.20 m.daN )
. (f) Do the procedure again for the other three thermocouples.
