Inspection of the Ignition Lead


WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE HIGH TENSION LEADS OF THE IGNITOR PLUGS FOR AT LEAST ONE MINUTE AFTER THE APPLICABLE CIRCUIT BREAKERS ARE OPEN. THE ELECTRICAL DISCHARGE OF THE HIGH ENERGY UNIT IS DANGEROUS AND CAN KILL.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: DO NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL CABLE CONDUIT TOO MUCH WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE CONDUIT CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 74-21-43-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Disconnection of the Ignition Lead
F Clip Points ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Loosen the clamps (2), (6), (26) and (28) and move them away from the cooling shrouds (1), (5) and (27).
   (2) Remove the cooling shrouds (1), (5) and (27).
   (3) Remove the bolt (10), the washer (9) and the clip (8) from the clip point at detail C.
   (4) Remove the bolt (18), the washers (19) and (23), the clips (20) and (22), the spacer (21) and the nut (24) from the clip point at detail E.
   (5) Remove the bolt (17), the washers (12) and (16), the clips (13) and (15), the spacer (14) and the nut (11) from the clip point at detail D.
   (6) Disconnect the ignition lead (4).
   (7) Remove and discard the grommets (3) and (25) from the ignition lead (4).

B. Installation of the Covers
   (1) Install the COVER - PROTECTION to ignitor plugs and ignition exciters.

C. Visual Inspection of the Ignition Lead

   (1) Visually examine the ignition lead according to the following acceptance standard:
     (a) Examine the area A for discharge sign or evidence of local burning or embrittlement on sleeve. Discharge sign, burning or embrittlement are not permitted.
     (b) Examine the contact for arc sign (erosion). Arc sign is not permitted, repair, refer to VRS1644.
     (c) Examine the sleeve for cracks and/or separations. Cracks and /or separations are not permitted.
     (d) Examine the outer surface of the ignition lead. Crushed conduit, torn braid wire strands and damage to end fittings are not permitted.
     (e) Examine the threads of the ignition lead. Damage to the thread is not permitted.

D. Removal of the Covers
   (1) Remove the covers to ignitor plugs and ignition exciters.

E. Connection of the Ignition Lead
   (1) Examine the contact, sleeve and thread for contamination caused by liquid or solid unwanted material. If necessary, clean with Cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-012) .
   (2) Install the new AIPC 74-21-41-80-100 GROMMET (3) and AIPC 74-21-43-80-020 GROMMET (25) to the ignition lead (4) and connect the ignition lead (4) to the ignition plug (7) and ignition exciter (29).
   (3) TORQUE the ignition lead (4) to between 160 and 140 lbf.in (1.81 and 1.58 m.daN )

F. Installation of the Cooling Shrouds
   (1) Install the cooling shrouds (1), (5) and (27) to the connection between the ignitor plug and the ignition lead and ignition exciter.
   (2) Install the clamps (2), (6), (26) and (28) to the cooling shrouds.
   (3) TORQUE the clamp screws to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN ) T.

G. Assembly of the Clip Points

   (1) Assemble the clip points at detail E with the bolt (18), the washers (19) and (23), the clips (20) and (22), the spacer (21) and the nut (24).
   (2) Assemble the clip point at detail D with the bolt (17), the washers (12) and (16), the clips (13) and (15), the spacer (14) and the nut (11).
   (3) Assemble the clip point at detail C with the bolt (10), the washer (9) and the clip (8).
   (4) TORQUE the bolt (10) and the nuts (11) and (24) to between 36 and 32 lbf.in (0.41 and 0.36 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
