4. ProcedureSubtask 74-21-41-220-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Check the Igniter Plug Immersion Depth
(2) Measure the distance D from the surface of the igniter plug that touches the threaded insert to the inner end of the igniter plug.
(3) The difference between distance E and distance D is the ignitor immersion depth F which must be 0.040 to 0.080 in. (1.02 to 2.03 mm).
(4) If you do not get dimension F you will have to do the procedure that follows:
(a) Remove the lockwire that locks the igniter threaded insert to the case.
(b) Remove the igniter threaded insert and classified spacer(s). A maximum of two spacers may be used at each igniter location. Total thickness of the two spacers shall not be more than 0.300 in. (7.62 mm).
(c) After the threaded insert has been removed, inspect the threads in the diffuser case and on the insert for damage and metal pickup. Carefully remove loose or sheared metal on the threads.
(d) If the diffuser case threads are damaged, repair threads using a 1.0625-16UNJ-3B tap. If threads are missing, rounded, sheared, grooved or pitted, engine should be removed from service.
(e) If the threads on the insert are damaged, replace the insert.
(f) Select one or two spacers, not to exceed the 0.300 in. (7.62 mm) thickness limit, to get the correct igniter plug immersion depth F.
(g) Apply anti-seize lubricant (Material No.V10-109) or anti-seize paste (Material No.V10-129) to the igniter threaded insert. Remove all unwanted compound.
(h) Install selected spacer(s) and the igniter threaded insert.
(i) Torque the igniter threaded insert to between 700 and 600 lbf.in (7.91 and 6.78 m.daN )
.
(j) Safety the igniter threaded insert with Lockwire (Material No.V02-119) or Lockwire (Material No.V02-141) .
Subtask 74-21-41-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: When you change the igniter plug only it is not necessary to do the procedure that follows. The immersion check is only required when maintenance is performed on the insert or when instructed to do so by the Trouble Shooting Manual.
NOTE: For the location of the igniter plugs on the diffuser case see view G-G (two places on Fig. 403/TASK 74-21-41-991-15600-001).
(1) Measure the distance E from the top of the insert to point L on the outer combustion chamber nearest the fuel nozzle. Use the IAE1P16092 GAGE, IGNITER.
