   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

   (1) Open the left thrust-reverser cowl-door (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 73-21-05-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA) Rotor
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
   (1) Find the PMA rotor (2) attached to the front of the main gearbox, at the eight o'clock position.
   (2) Remove the PMA stator (Ref. AMM TASK 73-21-04-000-801).
   (3) Remove the PMA rotor (2) from the shaft as follows:
CAUTION: THERE ARE STRONG MAGNETS IN THE ROTOR. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE ROTOR AWAY FROM OTHER METAL OBJECTS, PARTICLES AND DUST. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE ROTOR CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Engage the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE on the nut (1) and shaft.
     (b) Attach the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE to the gearbox with the three captive bolts.
     (c) Tighten the bolts.
     (d) Loosen the nut (1) from the shaft with the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE
     (e) Remove the nut (1) and the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE from the shaft.
     (f) Turn the handle on the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR to the OPEN position to move the three jaws outboard.
     (g) Install the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR on the PMA rotor (2).
     (h) Turn the handle on the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR to the CLOSED position to move the three jaws inboard and aft of the PMA rotor (2).
     (i) Attach the PWA29389 HYDRAULIC PUMP to the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR.
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY A FORCE THAT IS MORE THAN 18,200 LBS (8255 KGS) DURING THE REMOVAL OF THE PMA ROTOR. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PMA ROTOR.
     (j) Remove the PMA rotor (2) with the PWA29389 HYDRAULIC PUMP.
     (k) Remove the PMA rotor (2) and the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR from the shaft.
     (l) Remove the PWA29389 HYDRAULIC PUMP from the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR.
     (m) Turn the handle on the PWA211434 PULLER, HYDRAULIC - ENGINE ASSY, GEARBOX, PMA ROTOR to the OPEN position to move the three jaws outboard and remove the PMA rotor (2).
     (n) Remove the slinger (3) from the shaft if necessary.
   (4) Installation of protection covers
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
