A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).

4. Procedure
Subtask 73-11-50-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Fuel Return Valve:
CAUTION: INSTALL CAPS AND PLUGS ON THE ORIFICES OF ALL DISCONNECTED PIPES AND PARTS FOR THEIR PROTECTION AGAINST CONTAMINATION BY UNWANTED MATERIALS.
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
   (1) Install a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) under the fuel return valve and drain fuel remaining in the fuel return hose (10) by loosening coupling nut.
   (2) Remove the three clamps securing the fuel return hose (10) to the fan frame brackets.
   (3) Disconnect the fuel tubes:
     (a) Fuel return hose (10).
     (b) Fuel pump LP tube (20).
     (c) Fuel pump HP tube (50).
     (d) IDG cooler tube (40).
     (e) Shut-off signal tube (80).
   (4) Disconnect the electrical connectors J7 (70) and J8 (60).

B. Remove the 3 bolts (30) which attach the fuel return valve (90), and remove the valve (90).
CAUTION: TAKE CARE DURING REMOVAL OF THE FUEL RETURN VALVE NOT TO DAMAGE THE NIPPLES.
   (1) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (2) Put PLUG - BLANKING and CAP - BLANKING on fuel return valve and disconnected fuel tubes.
