Removal of the Rotating Seals of the Accessory Gearbox (AGB)

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

MAKE SURE THAT THE ROTATING-SEAL HOUSING AND MATING-RING DOES NOT FALL FROM THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION TOOL. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE FROM PARTS, TOOLS OR UNWANTED MATERIAL THAT FALL ON THE ENGINE.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 72-63-43-010-050-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL 438AR.
(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
447AL 448AR.
(2) Drain the AGB (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-802).
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL 438AR.
(b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
447AL 448AR.
(2) Drain the AGB (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-802).
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A SCREWDRIVER OR EQUIVALENT TOOLS AS A LEVER AS IT CAN DAMAGE THE ROTATING SEAL OR THE ACCESSORY GEARBOX COVER.
Subtask 72-63-43-020-050-A A. Removal of the Rotating Seals of the AGB
(1) (a) Remove the manual control cover (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-03-000-801).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (5) from the location of the manual control cover (1):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (5).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (5) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (5) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (5).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (6).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (6), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (6) from the location of the manual control cover (1).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (7) from the rotating seal housing (6).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (8).
(i) Rotate the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (8), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (8) from the location of the manual control cover (1).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (9) from the mating ring (8).
(2) (a) Remove the IDG (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-806).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (10) from the location of the IDG (2):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (10).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (10) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (10) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (10).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (11).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (11), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (11) from the location of the IDG (2).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (12) from the rotating seal housing (11).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (13).
(i) Rotate the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (13), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (13) from the location of the IDG (2).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (14) from the mating ring (13).
(3) (a) Remove the EDP (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-51-000-808).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (15) from the location of the EDP (3):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (15).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (15) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (15) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (15).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (16).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (16), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (16) from the location of the EDP (3).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (17) from the rotating seal housing (16).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (18).
(i) Rotate the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (18), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (18) from the location of the EDP (3).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (19) from the mating ring (18).
(4) (a) Remove the main fuel pump (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-05-000-801).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (20) from the location of the main fuel pump (4):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (20).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (20) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (20) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (20).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (21).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (21), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (21) from the location of the main fuel pump (4).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (22) from the rotating seal housing (21).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (23).
(i) Rotate the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (23), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (23) from the location of the main fuel pump (4).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (24) from the mating ring (23).
(1) (a) Remove the manual control cover (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-03-000-801).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (5) from the location of the manual control cover (1):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (5).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (5) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (5) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (5).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (6).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (6), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (6) from the location of the manual control cover (1).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (7) from the rotating seal housing (6).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (8).
(i) Rotate the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (8), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (8) from the location of the manual control cover (1).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (9) from the mating ring (8).
(2) (a) Remove the IDG (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-806).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (10) from the location of the IDG (2):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (10).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (10) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (10) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (10).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (11).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (11), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (11) from the location of the IDG (2).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (12) from the rotating seal housing (11).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (13).
(i) Rotate the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (13), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (13) from the location of the IDG (2).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (14) from the mating ring (13).
(3) (a) Remove the EDP (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-11-51-000-808).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (15) from the location of the EDP (3):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (15).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (15) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (15) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (15).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (16).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (16), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (16) from the location of the EDP (3).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (17) from the rotating seal housing (16).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (18).
(i) Rotate the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (18), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (18) from the location of the EDP (3).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (19) from the mating ring (18).
(4) (a) Remove the main fuel pump (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-05-000-801).
(b) Remove the retaining ring (20) from the location of the main fuel pump (4):
1 Install the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the removal notch of the retaining ring (20).
2 Pull out the first end of the retaining ring (20) with the spatula (P16) of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
3 Manually turn the retaining ring (20) until it is free from its groove.
4 Remove and discard the retaining ring (20).
(c) Insert the three slots of the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the three locking pins of the rotating seal housing (21).
(d) Rotate the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS to engage it with the rotating seal housing (21), whatever the direction.
(e) Pull the housing removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(f) Remove the rotating seal housing (21) from the location of the main fuel pump (4).
(g) Remove and discard the O-ring (22) from the rotating seal housing (21).
(h) Insert the two locking pins of the mating ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS into the two slots of the mating ring (23).
(i) Rotate the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS by 90 degrees to engage it with the mating ring (23), whatever the direction.
(j) Pull the mating-ring removal/installation tool of the 956A6201G01 PUSHER/PULLER - ROTATING SEALS.
(k) Remove the mating ring (23) from the location of the main fuel pump (4).
(l) Remove and discard the O-ring (24) from the mating ring (23).
