Removal of the Angle Gearbox

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Ground Maintenance
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE DEACTIVATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED OPERATION AND THUS OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
461AL, 462AR.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-62-01-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Angle Gearbox
   (1) Removal of the protection covers:
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
   (2) Find the angle gearbox (1) attached to the Main Gear Box (MGB) at the 6 o'clock position.
F Angle Gearbox Tube (LR35) ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (3) Remove the N2 speed transducer, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 77-11-23-000-801).
   (4) Remove the lubrication return tube (LR35) (4) from the angle gearbox (1) as follows:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (3), the three bolts (6) and the lubrication return tube (LR35) (4).
     (b) Remove the seals (2) and (5) and discard them.
   (5) Remove the layshaft access port-cover (16) from the layshaft access port as follows. See sheet 1 of the figure:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (17) and the two washers (18).
     (b) Remove the two bolts (21) and move the bracket (20) to give clearance to remove the layshaft access port-cover (16).
     (c) Use the PWA211773 PULLER, SLIDE MAIN to remove the layshaft access port-cover (16) from the layshaft access port.
     (d) Remove the packing (19) from the layshaft access port-cover (16) and discard the packing (19).
   (6) Remove the MGB oil-supply tube (LP35) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-61-01-000-801).
   (7) Remove the layshaft locknut (29) from the layshaft access port as follows. See sheet 2 of the figure:
     (a) Install the PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER on the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) gearbox pad with the eight detail hexagonal-head cap-screws.
     (b) TORQUE the eight detail hexagonal-head cap-screws to between 400 and 360 lbf.in (4.52 and 4.07 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Install the detail adapter on the layshaft locknut (29).
     (d) Loosen the layshaft locknut (29) with the detail adapter.
     (e) Remove the layshaft locknut (29) and the detail adapter.
     (f) Remove the eight detail hexagonal-head cap-screws and the
PWA211413 ANTI-TORQUE ADAPTER from the IDG pad.
   (8) Remove the plug (40) from the layshaft access port as follows. See sheet 3 of the figure:
     (a) While you hold the PWA111744 PULLER, HAND - ENGINE ASSY, LAYSHAFT OIL PLUG housing, push the puller forward and turn the hand knob counterclockwise.
     (b) Align the PWA111744 PULLER, HAND - ENGINE ASSY, LAYSHAFT OIL PLUG with the plug (40) slots.
     (c) Attach the PWA111744 PULLER, HAND - ENGINE ASSY, LAYSHAFT OIL PLUG to the plug (40).
     (d) Turn the hand knob until the pin is aligned with one of the two plug (40) slots.
     (e) Hold the hand knob and turn the housing clockwise until the pin fits in the puller slot.
     (f) Remove the plug (40) with the PWA111744 PULLER, HAND - ENGINE ASSY, LAYSHAFT OIL PLUG.
     (g) Remove the packing (39) from the plug (40) and discard the packing (39).
   (9) Move the layshaft cover from the angle gearbox (1) as follows. See sheet 1 of the figure:

     (a) Remove the four bolts (17), the two washers (18) and the bracket (52).
     (b) Move the cover and the plate (54) in the direction of the MGB as necessary to give clearance to remove the angle gearbox (1).
   (10) Remove the layshaft (50) from the MGB and the angle gearbox (1) as follows. See sheets 1 and 2 of the figure:

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE THE MECHANICAL PULLER TOOL. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ADJACENT HARDWARE, ESPECIALLY THE LPT CASE.
     (a) Attach the PWA211270 PULLER, MECHANICAL adapter body to the end of the layshaft (50). See sheet 2 of the figure:

     (b) Turn the hand knob until the adapter body engages the oil holes of the layshaft (50).
     (c) Attach the puller stand to the adapter body.
     (d) Use the quick grip clamp to disengage the layshaft (50) from the angle gearbox (1). See sheet 1 of the figure:

     (e) Remove the layshaft (50) from the MGB and the angle gearbox (1). See sheets 1 and 2 of the figure:

     (f) Remove the layshaft (50) from the adapter body. See sheet 2 of the figure:

   (11) Remove the lubrication return tube (LR30) from the angle gearbox (1) as follows. See sheet 3 of the figure:

     (a) Remove the two bolts (61), the bracket (64), the bolt (62) and the tube (LR30).
     (b) Remove the seal (63) and discard it.
   (12) Remove the angle gearbox (1) from the Compressor Intermediate Case (CIC) drive shaft as follows. See sheet 1 of the figure:

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE LAYSHAFT IS CLEAR OF THE ANGLE GEARBOX BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE ANGLE GEARBOX. IF NOT, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Remove the four bolts (74).
     (b) Remove the angle gearbox (1).
     (c) Remove the two transfer tubes (84) and (86). See sheet 2 of the figure:

     (d) Remove the two packings (85), the packing (87) and the two packings (88) and discard them.
   (13) Remove the layshaft cover and the plate (54) from the MGB. See sheet 1 of the figure:

   (14) Remove the packings (51) and (53) from the layshaft cover and discard the packings (51) and (53).
   (15) Installation of the protection covers:
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
