4. Procedure
Subtask 72-56-00-420-064-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Assembly of the Air/Oil Separator
   (1) Assemble the air/oil separator (10).
NOTE: The air/oil separator ((337-108-502-0), (337-108-551-0), (337-108-510-0), (337-108-520-0)) are single-part design, this assembly is not required.
     (a) Put the air/oil separator cover (110) on the air/ oil separator (120).
     (b) Install the bolts (100) and attach the air/oil separator cover (110) with the nuts (140) and the washers (130).
       1 TORQUE the nuts (140) to between 65.1 and 58.9 lbf.in (0.74 and 0.67 m.daN ) T.
Subtask 72-56-00-420-065-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Air/Oil Separator Assembly
   (1) Install the air/oil separator assembly (10).
     (a) Install the protector of the 856A2661 AFT ROTATING AIR/OIL SEPARATOR PULLER on the rear vent tube (40) seal teeth.
     (b) Measure and record values A and B.
     (c) Application of engine oil
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
1 Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) on the threads of the rear vent tube (40) extension duct and on the journal of the air/oil separator (10).
     (d) Apply a thin layer of MoS_2 dry film lubricant (Material No.CP5062) on the mating surfaces of the rear vent tube (40) and of the air/oil separator (10).
     (e) Use of DRY-ICE for the installation of the air/oil separator
WARNING: USE THERMAL GLOVES WHEN YOU MOVE OR TOUCH HOT OR COLD PARTS. HOT OR COLD PARTS CAN CAUSE INJURY.
1 Put the forward end of the air/oil separator (10) in DRY-ICE for five minutes minimum.
2 Remove the air/oil separator (10) from DRY-ICE and install it over the rear vent tube (40). To do this, engage the air/oil separator (10) slots with the rear vent tube (40) lugs. Turn the air/oil separator (10) with your hand to make sure that the lugs engage in the slots.
a Engage the air/oil separator (10) offset slot with the rear vent tube offset lug. The air/oil separator offset slot and tube offset lug are identified by spherical indentations.
     (f) Check of the air/oil separator installation
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE AIR/OIL SEPARATOR IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
       1 Calculate Dimension C (using the previously recorded dimensions A and B): C = A - B
2 Measure Dimension C. Do this measurement at four equally-spaced locations and calculate the average of the four measurements. If the difference between C calculated value and C measured value is more than 0.003 in. (0.0762 mm), remove the parts and do a check for cause.

C. Installation of the Separator Nut
   (1) Install the Air/Oil Separator Nut (20).
     (a) Application of engine oil
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
1 Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) on the threads of the air/oil separator nut (20).
     (b) Remove the protector of the 856A2661 AFT ROTATING AIR/OIL SEPARATOR PULLER from the rear vent tube (40).
     (c) Engage the nut (20) with your hand.
     (d) Install the 856A3392 AFT ROTATING AIR/OIL SEPARATOR WRENCH TORQUE as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU ENGAGE THE SOCKET LUGS OF THE WRENCH AND THE COUNTERTORQUE WRENCH IN THE RELATED SLOTS OF THE AIR/OIL SEPARATOR NUT AND REAR VENT TUBE CORRECTLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO PARTS.
CAUTION: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE THE TORQUE MULTIPLIER. DO A CHECK OF ALL TORQUE CALCULATIONS TWO TIMES BEFORE YOU PUT FORCE THROUGH THE TORQUE MULTIPLIER. IF YOU DO NOT USE THE TORQUE MULTIPLIER CORRECTLY, YOU CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE.
1 Engage the guide in the rear vent tube (40). At the same time, engage the wrench (50) and counter torque wrench (60) in the slots of the air/oil separator nut (20) and in the slots of the rear vent tube (40).
2 Install the TORQUE MULTIPLIER (70) in the counter torque wrench (60) and the lever arm (80) of the TORQUE MULTIPLIER (70) in the arm fork (90) of the wrench (50).
     (e) Install the air/oil separator nut (20) and make sure that the self-locking TORQUE value is to between 823 and 248 lbf.in (9.30 and 2.80 m.daN ) T.
1 Record this self-locking torque value as value D.
     (f) Torque the air/oil separator nut (20) as follow:
       1 TORQUE to be applied for the air/oil separator nut (20) is to between 929.25 and 840.75 lbf.in (10.50 and 9.50 m.daN )
T.
a This torque value is called value E.
       2 Torque the air/oil separator nut (20) to a torque value F = D + E.
3 Matchmark the nut position in relation to the shaft.
4 Loosen the air/oil separator nut (20), then torque again to the same value as calculated in Para. 4.C.(1)(f)2_.
5 Examine the matchmarks as follow:
a If the matchmarks are aligned, or if the matchmark on the air/oil separator nut (20) is after the mark on the shaft, go to Para. 4.C.(1)(g).
b If the matchmark on the air/oil separator nut (20) does not reach the mark on the shaft, disassemble the air/oil separator (10) and examine the parts for condition. Then, start the installation procedure again from Para. 4.B.(1)(b).
     (g) Remove the
856A3392 AFT ROTATING AIR/OIL SEPARATOR WRENCH TORQUE (50) and the TORQUE MULTIPLIER (70).
