3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-50-50-941-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

D. Remove the Exhaust Cone (Ref. AMM TASK 78-11-12-000-010)

E. Remove the No. 5 Bearing Compartment Cover (Ref. AMM TASK 72-51-41-000-010).
4. Procedure

A. Disconnect Tube 1, No. 5 Bearing Oil Feed Tube.
F No. 5 Bearing Oil Feed Tube ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Loosen the nuts, bolts, washers, spacers, clip nuts and clips from clip location 5206.
   (2) Disconnect tube 1 from the outer oil feed tube:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (2) and the two nuts (4) from the flange connection.
     (b) Remove and discard the O-ring (3).
     (c) Remove the oil filter (5).

B. Disconnect Tube 2, No. 5 Bearing Oil Scavenge Tube.
F No. 5 Bearing Oil Scavenge Tube ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Loosen the nuts, bolts, washers, spacers, clip nuts and clips from clip location 5228.
   (2) Disconnect tube 2 from the outer oil scavenge tube:
     (a) Remove the four bolts (5) and the two threaded plates (4) from the flange connection.
   (3) Remove and discard the O-ring (3).

E. Remove the Oil Jet and Transfer Tube of the No. 5 Bearing.
   (1) Remove the bolts (5) and the lockwashers (6).
   (2) Remove the oil transfer tube (4) and discard the O-rings (3).
   (3) Remove the bolts (1) and remove the oil jet (2) and discard the O-ring (7).
Subtask 72-50-50-160-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
F. Clean the No. 5 Oil Service Tubes.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE ON CARBON SEALS OR ENGINE BEARINGS.
   (1) Using borescope equipment, inspect the oil pressure and scavenge tubes for internal carbon build-up. No carbon build-up is allowed.
   (2) Apply the carbon removal alkaline gel (Material No.V01-454) 100 percent by volume, at ambient temperature, into the tubes. Make sure that the tubes are full.
NOTE: The carbon remover alkaline gel (Material No.V01-455) or carbon remover alkaline gel (Material No.V01-456) may also be used.
   (3) Plug the tubes.
   (4) Let soak for 1 to 12 hours depending on the amount of contamination.
   (5) Flush the tubes fully with cold or hot water pressure spray. Use the adapters and the draining hoses on the inner flanges of the oil scavenge and oil pressure tubes.
   (6) Inspect the tubes for carbon, using borescope equipment. No remaining carbon build-up is allowed.
   (7) Repeat steps (3) thru (7) as necessary. The maximum allowable soak time for the tubes is 24 hours.

G. Inspect the Oil Feed Tube 1 and the Oil Scavenge Tube 2.
   (1) Using borescope equipment, inspect the oil feed tube. No carbon build up is allowed. Clean the tube per step F. if necessary.
   (2) Using borescope equipment, inspect the oil scavenge tube. No carbon build up is allowed. Clean the tube per step F. if necessary.

H. Inspect the Oil Jet and the Transfer Tube.
F No. 5 Bearing Oil Feed Tube ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Inspect the oil jet and the transfer tube. No contamination is allowed. Clean as necessary.
   (2) Inspect the filter (5). No contamination is allowed. Clean as necessary.
Subtask 72-50-50-210-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
I. Inspect the No. 5 Bearing Compartment for Contamination.
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the rear end of the No. 5 compartment and the transfer tube for contamination. No contamination is allowed.
   (2) Inspect for blockage in the oil flow (pressure and scavenge) passage areas of the Turbine Exhaust Case (TEC) assembly. For the location, refer to the figure:
     (a) If the blockage is confirmed, carefully clean using an appropriate PICK UP TOOL - MAGNETIC and VACUUM CLEANER to remove all the debris from the oil passage.

K. Install the Oil Feed Tube of the No. 5 Bearing.
   (1) Install the oil feed tube into the exhaust case strut and connect the tube nut (10) to the adapter (11), hand-tighten only.
   (2) Attach the tube nut (8) to the oil feed tube with the AIPC 72-50-53-80-100 THRUST WIRE (9).
   (3) Install the bracket (3) on the external flange of the exhaust case with the bolts (6) and the nuts (1), hand-tighten only.
   (4) Connect the elbow (7) to the oil feed tube nut (8).
   (5) Install the clamp (4) on the elbow (7) with the bolt (5) and the nut (2), hand-tighten only.
   (6) Make sure that the oil feed tube is in the center of the exhaust case opening before you continue with the following steps.
   (7) TORQUE the tube nut (10) to between 225 and 200 lbf.in (2.54 and 2.26 m.daN )
T.
   (8) Secure the tube nut (10) with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
   (9) TORQUE the tube nut (8) to between 225 and 200 lbf.in (2.54 and 2.26 m.daN ) T.
   (10) Secure the tube nut (8) with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
   (11) TORQUE the nuts (1) and (2) to between 95 and 85 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.96 m.daN ) T.
   (12) Install the inner support bracket (16) on the exhaust case and secure with the bolts (17) and the nuts (15).
   (13) TORQUE the nuts (15) to between 95 and 85 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.96 m.daN )
T.
   (14) Install the heat shield halves (12) on the oil feed tube.
   (15) Install the bolt (18), washers (14) and (19) and nut (13) to attach the heat shield to the inner support bracket (16).
   (16) TORQUE the nut (13) to between 40 and 35 lbf.in (0.45 and 0.40 m.daN )
T
   (17) Secure the heat shield halves (12) together with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
Subtask 72-50-50-420-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
L. Install the Oil Scavenge Tube of the No. 5 Bearing.
   (1) Install the oil scavenge tube (1) into the exhaust case strut and connect the tube nut (19) to the adapter (18), hand-tighten only.
   (2) Attach the tube nut (2) to the oil scavenge tube (1) with the AIPC 72-50-53-81-050 THRUST WIRE (3).
   (3) Install the bracket (7) on the external flange of the exhaust case with the bolts (6) and the nuts (8), hand-tighten only.
   (4) Connect the elbow (4) to the tube nut (2).
   (5) Attach the opposite end of the elbow (4) to the bracket (7) with the bolt (9) and the nut (5), hand-tighten only.
   (6) Make sure that the oil scavenge tube is in the center of the opening of the exhaust case before you continue with the following steps.
   (7) TORQUE the tube nut (19) to between 250 and 225 lbf.in (2.83 and 2.54 m.daN )
T.
   (8) Secure the tube nut (19) with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
   (9) TORQUE the tube nut (2) to between 350 and 320 lbf.in (3.96 and 3.62 m.daN ) T.
   (10) Secure the tube nut (2) with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
   (11) TORQUE the nuts (5) and (8) to between 95 and 85 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.96 m.daN ) T.
   (12) Install the inner support bracket (12) on the exhaust case and secure with the bolts (14) and the nuts (13).
   (13) TORQUE the nuts (13) to between 95 and 85 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.96 m.daN )
T.
   (14) Install the heat shield halves (17) on the oil scavenge tube.
   (15) Install the bolt (10), washers (11) and (16) and nut (15) to attach the heat shield to the inner support bracket (12).
   (16) TORQUE the nut (15) to between 40 and 35 lbf.in (0.45 and 0.40 m.daN )
T.
   (17) Secure the heat shield halves (17) together with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
Subtask 72-50-50-420-058-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
M. Connect Tube 2 of the No. 5 Bearing Oil Scavenge Tube.
F No. 5 Bearing Oil Scavenge Tube ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Connect tube 2 to the outer oil scavenge tube flange:
     (a) Put the AIPC 79-22-49-80-030 O-RING (3) into the correct position.
     (b) Install the four bolts (5) and the two threaded plates (4).
     (c) TORQUE the nuts to between 105 and 85 lbf.in (1.19 and 0.96 m.daN )
T.
     (d) Secure the bolts with corrosion resistant steel lockwire (Material No.
V02-119) .
   (2) Install the clips, clip nuts, bolts and washers at clip position 5228. TORQUE the bolts to between 45 and 36 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.41 m.daN ) T.
