WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives the criteria for the visual inspection of the Low Pressure Compressor (LPC) Stage 1 vane and the rotating ring spacer.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-21-00-941-096-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Remove the fan blades (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-20-000-801).
   (3) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.
   (4) Install the MAT - PROTECTIVE.

7.Nicks and dents in Area A on the LE of the Stage 1 booster vane (1) assembly
Any number, if not more than 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) in depth axially.
Protrusion is acceptable. The indications must not go through the metal.
8.Nicks and dents in Area A of the Stage 1 booster vane (1) assembly
Any number, if not more than 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) in depth axially.
Protrusion is acceptable. The indications must not go through the metal.
9.Nicks and dents in Area A on the TE of the Stage 1 booster vane (1) assembly
Any number, if not more than 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) in depth axially.
Protrusion is acceptable. The indications must not go through the metal.

Any number, if outside Areas D and A and if length L along the leading (or trailing) edge is not more than 0.295 in. (7.49 mm) and the maximum dimension X along the circumferential direction is not more than 0.0295 in. (0.749 mm). Dim H1 is more than 1.181 in. (30.00 mm). Dim H2 is more than 0.3937 in. (10.000 mm).
A maximum of six vanes affected per stage is permitted.
16.Deposit on the Stage 1 booster vane (1) assembly

In case of Low Pressure Compressor (LPC) Stage 1 Inlet Guide Vane (IGV) removal (for blending repair of LPC Stage 2 vane assembly).
21.Rub marks from the seal teeth on the inner shroud abradable
Any amount, if not more than 0.059 in. (1.50 mm) in depth and not more than 0.1497 in. (3.802 mm) in width all over the circumferences. Rub marks of 0.0787 in. (1.999 mm) in depth are permitted locally.
In case of LPC Stage 1 IGV removal (for blending repair of LPC Stage 2 vane assembly).
22.Dents on the forward or aft edge
Any number, if not more than 0.050 in. (1.27 mm) in depth and if the length of the indications is at least ten times greater than its depth.

     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (4) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE.
   (5) Remove the access platform(s).
