4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-13-220-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do a Visual Inspection of the Fan Cowl Latches as follows:
   (1) Visual inspection of the left fan cowl latches.
     (a) Examine the fan cowl latches for damage and distortion. If damage is found, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
     (b) Visually inspect the fan cowl latches for cracks. If cracks are found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
     (c) Examine the fan cowl latches for nicks, scratches, gouges, or excessive wear. If damage or wear is more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) in depth, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
     (d) Examine the fan cowl latches for a weak spring. If a weak spring is found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
NOTE: A weak handle spring has no effect on the latching mechanism, however it reduces the handle opening angle and its visibility when hanging down.
NOTE: You must use a FLASHLIGHT and an MIRROR - INSPECTION to examine areas of the fan cowl latches that are difficult to see.
     (e) Make sure that the fan cowl latches are attached correctly. Tighten or replace the attachment hardware, as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the adjustable keepers of the right fan cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-220-041).
