Installation of the Air Intake Cowl

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position at zone:
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (1) Remove the plugs (4), if installed, from the air intake cowl sling points.
   (2) Attach the IAE1N20403 SLING-INLET COWL to the hoist and to the air intake cowl.

E. Remove the covers, caps and plugs from the openings, the electrical connectors and the electrical plugs.

F. Cleaning
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with cleaning fluid (Material No.V01-002) to clean these parts:
     (a) The ends of the ducts.
     (b) The hose connections.
     (c) The hose.
     (d) The engine fan case flange.
     (e) The rear flange of the air intake cowl.
     (f) The bolts.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-11-11-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Install the Air Intake Cowl
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE PYLON FORWARD FAIRING IS CORRECTLY SEATED ON THE TRAILING EDGE LAND OF THE AIR INTAKE COWL. IF THE PYLON FORWARD FAIRING IS NOT IN THE CORRECT POSITION, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Release the air intake cowl from the IAE1N20401 DOLLY-INLET COWL.
   (2) Align the four location spigots with the holes in the fan case flange.
   (3) Make sure that the pylon forward fairing panel is correctly seated on the trailing edge land of the air intake cowl.
   (4) Apply a thin layer of the corrosion inhibitive jointing compound (Material No.V04-018) on the threads and shanks of the bolts (1).
   (5) Use the bolts (1) to attach the intake cowl to the fan case flange.
     (a) Start at the 3 o'clock and the 9 o'clock positions and move in a sequence around the flange.
   (6) Make sure that there is a minimum of 0.040 in. (1.02 mm) and a maximum of 0.130 in. (3.30 mm) clearance between the air intake cowl trailing edge and the pylon forward fairing.
   (7) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 231 and 189 lbf.in (2.61 and 2.14 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
   (8) Disengage the two forward hold open rods from the stowing brackets and engage them in the attach point brackets (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010).

B. Remove the Sling
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the sling (IAE 1N20403) from the air intake cowl and the hoist.
   (2) SBN71-0277: Apply locking compound (Material No.V08-026) to the threads of the plugs (4).
   (3) Install the plugs (4) into the air intake cowl sling points.
   (4) SBN71-0277: Remove the locking compound from the area around the blanking plugs.

C. Remove the sling from the left and right fan cowl-doors.
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Lower the left and right fan cowl-doors and remove the IAE1N20404 SLING-FAN COWL DOORS or the 745-4001-1GSE FAN COWL SLING.
   (2) Install the blank caps (5) on the left and right fan-cowl-door sling-points.

D. Installation of the Hardware
CAUTION: DO NOT TWIST THE HOSE WHEN YOU INSTALL AND TORQUE THE TUBE/HOSE. DAMAGE TO THE TUBE/HOSE CAN OCCUR AND GIVE FALSE INDICATIONS FROM THE P2T2 PROBE.
   (1) Connect the anti-ice duct
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Install a new AIPC 71-11-11-80-040 SEAL (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-13-911-010).
     (b) Connect the ducts.
     (c) Install the coupling (2).
     (d) TORQUE the coupling nuts to between 55 and 45 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.51 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
   (2) Connect the instrument air tube
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Connect the instrument air tube to the union at the cowl aft bulkhead.
     (b) TORQUE the tube connector nut to between 145 and 135 lbf.in (1.64 and 1.53 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
   (3) Connect the five electrical connectors (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-15-912-010)
F Air Intake Cowl ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Connect the three P2/T2 electrical connectors 4010VC-A, 4012VC-A and 4013VC-A.
     (b) Connect the TAI valve electrical connector 4000DN-A.
     (c) Connect the interphone jack electrical connector 4011VC-A.
   (4) Install the P2/T2 sensor.
NOTE: If the air intake cowl was removed to be overhauled, the P2/T2 installation task requires to be completed, (Ref. AMM TASK 73-22-11-400-010).

E. Do a leak test on the coupling (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-790-010).

F. Install the insulations around the coupling (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-400-806).

   (1) Remove the air intake cowl transit-case/work-stand (IAE 1N20401).

B. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):

   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).

C. Tests
   (1) Do this test:

RESULT
1.On the MAINTENANCE panel 50VU, release the FADEC GND PWR ENG ENG1(2) pushbutton switch.
  • On the pushbutton switch, the ON legend comes on.
  • On the upper ECAM DU, the engine parameters EPR, EGT and Fuel Flow come into view.
2.On the upper display unit of the ECAM system, make sure that the EPR indication is not crossed (EPR=1)

3.On the MAINTENANCE panel 50VU, push the FADEC GND PWR ENG ENG1(2) pushbutton switch.
  • On the pushbutton switch, the ON legend goes off.
  • On the upper ECAM DU, the engine parameters EPR, EGT and Fuel Flow go out of view.
   (2) Do the operational test of the P2/T2 probe heater (Ref. AMM TASK 73-22-11-710-040).
   (3) Do an operational test of the anti ice system fault warning (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-00-710-001).
