Installation of the Wing-Tip Structure

THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS is correctly installed on the flap/slat control lever.
   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the flaps or slats.
   (3) Make sure that the safety barriers are in position.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 4M (13 FT) is in position below the applicable wing-tip, zone 534(634).
   (2) Make sure that the applicable access panel has been removed:
  • For the left wing-tip, 534AB
  • For the right wing-tip, 634AB.

4. Procedure
Subtask 57-31-21-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the interfaces of the wing-tip and the wing structure.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Release Agent-- PTFE Loaded - (Material No.14DDB1) on the interface of the wing tip (2).
NOTE: This will make the subsequent removal procedure easier.

B. Installation of the Wing-tip Structure
   (1) Put the wing tip (2) near the wing then put the supply cable through the hole for the grommet (3).
   (2) Put the wing tip (2) in position and hold it on supports. Install and tighten the bolts (5).
   (3) Make sure that the dimension X is 1.2 mm (0.05 in.) +/- 0.5 mm (0.02 in.).
   (4) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) to the interface of the wing/wing tip (2).
   (5) Install the grommet (3).
   (6) Remove the blanking caps from the supply cable and the connector (4).
   (7) Connect the supply cable to the connector (4).
   (8) Clean the electrical connector of the supply cable with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (9) Apply a continuous layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ACB1) to the electrical connector of the supply cable.

C. Installation of a Replacement Wing-tip Structure
   (1) If a replacement wing-tip structure has been installed, install:

D. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

E. Test
   (1) Do an operational test of the navigational lights (Ref. AMM TASK 33-41-00-710-001).
   (2) Do an operational test of the anti-collision/strobe lighting (Ref. AMM TASK 33-48-00-710-002).
5. Close-up
Subtask 57-31-21-410-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the access panels:
  • For the left wing-tip, 534AB
  • For the right wing-tip, 634AB.
NOTE: The access panel is installed with the drain hole(s) in the inboard direction.
   (3) Remove the 98D27803500001 LOCKING TOOL ZERO POS from the flap/slat control lever.
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (5) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
   (6) Remove the access platform(s).
   (7) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
