4. Procedure
Subtask 55-34-11-560-050-A
A. Preparation of the Vertical Stabilizer Tip for Installation
   (1) Do a check for the condition of the sealant on the mating surfaces along the spar-box and the leading-edge rib. If necessary, replace the sealant:
     (a) Remove the sealant from the mating surfaces along the spar-box and the leading-edge rib with a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC.
     (b) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) to the mating surfaces of the tip (1). Do not apply the sealant to the bonding points.
     (c) Apply the release agent Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) along the mating surfaces of the spar-box and the leading-edge rib. Do not apply the release agent to the bonding points.
   (2) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (5) Examine the anchor nuts on the leading-edge rib and the spar-box for good condition.
Subtask 55-34-11-420-052-B
B. Installation of the Vertical Stabilizer Tip
   (1) If applicable, attach the 98A55308440000 SLING-UNIVERSAL,TAIL PLANE to the lift lug (4) and to the CRANE HEIGHT 15 M (50 FT).
   (2) If applicable, lift the tip (1) clear of the vertical stabilizer with the crane and the sling.
   (3) Put the tip (1) in position.
   (4) If applicable, remove the universal tailplane sling from the lift lug (4).
   (5) If applicable, remove the universal tailplane sling and the crane.
   (6) Install the screws (3).
   (7) TORQUE the screws (3) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in ) T.
   (8) Make sure that the electrical bonding between the vertical stabilizer lightning-conductor and the trimmable horizontal-stabilizer bonding-leads is:
   (9) Make sure that clearance A around the tip (1) is 1 +3 mm or -0 mm (0.0394 +0.1181 in. or +0.0000 in.).
   (10) If applicable, remove the lift lug (4) and install the plastic plug in the lift point.
     (a) Install the new self-adhesive disks on the hoisting points (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-400-022).
   (11) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) around the tip (1).
   (12) Install the static discharger (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-400-001).
