Installation of the Elevator Tips and End Caps
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING:
YOU MUST PUT ON AND ATTACH A SAFETY HARNESS BEFORE YOU START WORK:
- ON THE THS OR IN THE REAR FUSELAGE
- ON TOP OF THE WINGS OR PYLONS.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the hydraulic system is depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
(2) Make sure that the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING is in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
(3) Make sure that the 98D27309001000 NEUTRAL SETTING TOOL - ELEVATOR is installed on the elevator.
(4) Make sure that the warning notices are in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(5) Make sure that the warning notices are in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(6) Make sure that the access platforms are in position at zone 335 and/or zone 345.

A. Installation
(1) Do the preparation for installation (Ref. AMM TASK 55-24-11-560-001).
(2) Install the Elevator Tips.
(a) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) and Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) along the mating surfaces.
(b) Put the elevator tips (3) in position.
(c) Install the screws (1).
(d) Install horizontal stabilizer tips 332AB and 342AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-14-11-400-001).
(e) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the gaps between the tips and the elevator skin panels.
(f) Install the static dischargers (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-400-001).
(g) Do a resistance check between each of the static discharger retainers (5) and the bonding lead installed in the spar of THS trailing edge, adjacent to the elevator hinge fitting 1.
(a) Use Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to clean the elevator and end cap interface.
(b) Make sure that the surfaces are clean and all the old sealant is removed.
(c) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) and separator agent Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) along the mating surfaces.
(d) Put the elevator end caps (2) in position.
(e) Install the screws (1).
(f) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the gaps between the elevator end caps and the elevator skin panels.
(g) Install the applicable elevator (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-400-001).
5. Close-up(1) Do the preparation for installation (Ref. AMM TASK 55-24-11-560-001).
(2) Install the Elevator Tips.
(a) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) and Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) along the mating surfaces.
(b) Put the elevator tips (3) in position.
(c) Install the screws (1).
(d) Install horizontal stabilizer tips 332AB and 342AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-14-11-400-001).
(e) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the gaps between the tips and the elevator skin panels.
(f) Install the static dischargers (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 23-61-41-400-001).
(g) Do a resistance check between each of the static discharger retainers (5) and the bonding lead installed in the spar of THS trailing edge, adjacent to the elevator hinge fitting 1.
NOTE: The maximum permitted resistance value is 50 milliohms.

(3) Install the Elevator End Caps. (a) Use Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to clean the elevator and end cap interface.
(b) Make sure that the surfaces are clean and all the old sealant is removed.
(c) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) and separator agent Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) along the mating surfaces.
(d) Put the elevator end caps (2) in position.
(e) Install the screws (1).
(f) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Brushable - (Material No.06ABA1) to the gaps between the elevator end caps and the elevator skin panels.
(g) Install the applicable elevator (Ref. AMM TASK 27-34-41-400-001).

A. Remove Ground Equipment
(1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(3) Remove the access platform(s).
Subtask 55-24-11-081-050-A (1) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

B. Remove Locking Devices
(1) Remove the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING from the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
(2) Remove the 98D27309001000 NEUTRAL SETTING TOOL - ELEVATOR from the elevator:
(a) Release the wing nut (6).
(b) Remove the T-handle screw (1) and the washer (2).
(c) Remove the set of bars (3) and plates (7) and (8).
(d) Install the T-handle screw (1) and the washer (2) in the stowage on the center plate (7).
(e) Tighten the wing nut (6).
Subtask 55-24-11-865-051-A (1) Remove the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING from the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
(2) Remove the 98D27309001000 NEUTRAL SETTING TOOL - ELEVATOR from the elevator:
(a) Release the wing nut (6).
(b) Remove the T-handle screw (1) and the washer (2).
(c) Remove the set of bars (3) and plates (7) and (8).
(d) Install the T-handle screw (1) and the washer (2) in the stowage on the center plate (7).
(e) Tighten the wing nut (6).
