3. Job Set-up
Subtask 55-16-38-860-052-A

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Put on and attach a safety harness before you start work in the work area
(2) Make sure that the pitch trim control of the horizontal stabilizer is set to zero.
(3) Make sure that the elevators touch their travel limit stops.
(4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
(5) Make sure that the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING is in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.
(6) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(7) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is (are) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(8) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) are in position at zones 314, 334 and 344.
(9) Make sure that access door 314AR is open and safetied in the open position.
(10) Be careful not to step on a closed access door.
(11) Make sure that the light switch is set to on.
(12) Make sure that aprons 333AT, 333AB, 343AT and 343AB are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 55-15-11-000-001).
(13) Make sure that trailing edge panels 334AT, 344AT, 334AB and 344AB are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-000-001).

C. Visual Inspection
(1) Make sure that the components are clean and in the correct condition.
(2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.

Subtask 55-16-38-420-051-B

A. Installation of the Support Bearings and Fittings
(1) Install the horizontal stabilizer support bearings.
(a) Install the bearing housing (5) with the shouldered end on the outboard side of the support fitting.
(b) Put the new AIPC 55-16-38-02-080 TABWASHER (4) in position.
(c) Install the ring nut (3) with the 98D55109009000 WRENCH, GROOVE NUT.
(d) TORQUE the ring nut (3) to between 5.93 and 5.37 m.daN (43.73 and 39.60 lbf.ft )

(e) Apply Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) on the bearing (6).
(f) Install the bearing (6).
(g) Put the new AIPC 55-16-38-02-050 TABWASHER (7) in position.
(h) Install the ring nut (8) with the 98D55109009000 WRENCH, GROOVE NUT.
(i) TORQUE the ring nut (8) to between 4.14 and 3.76 m.daN (30.53 and 27.73 lbf.ft )

(j) Safety the ring nuts (3) and (8) with the tabwashers (4) and (7).
(k) Install the sealing rings (2) and make sure that the channel points in the opposite direction to the support fitting.
(2) Install the fittings (1) on the pivot points of the horizontal stabilizer (Ref. AMM TASK 53-56-11-400-001).

5. Close-up

A. Close Access
(1) Install the aprons 333AT 333AB 343AT 343AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-15-11-400-001).
(2) Install the trailing edge panels 334AT 344AT 334AB 344AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-400-001).

(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
