B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized and put them in the maintenance configuration
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
(2) Make sure that the access platform is in position at the trimmable horizontal stabilizer.
(3) Make sure that the warning notices are in position in the cockpit to tell persons:
4. Procedure(1) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized and put them in the maintenance configuration
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
(2) Make sure that the access platform is in position at the trimmable horizontal stabilizer.
(3) Make sure that the warning notices are in position in the cockpit to tell persons:
- not to pressurize the hydraulic systems,
- not to operate the flight controls.
Subtask 55-15-11-320-050-A
A. Preparation of the Replacement Component
(2) Remove the old sealant from the aprons (4), (9) with a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(3) Remove the screws (10), the cover strip (11), (12) and the seal (13), (14) from the removed apron (4), (9).
(4) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(5) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(6) Do an inspection for correct condition of the nut-plates.
Subtask 55-15-11-210-054-A CAUTION:
DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES. THE COMPONENTS ARE MADE OF CARBONFIBER REINFORCED PLASTIC.
(1) Clean the mating surface of the THS with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) (2) Remove the old sealant from the aprons (4), (9) with a SCRAPER - NON METALLIC and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(3) Remove the screws (10), the cover strip (11), (12) and the seal (13), (14) from the removed apron (4), (9).
(4) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(5) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(6) Do an inspection for correct condition of the nut-plates.
- If necessary, do the Fairing Attachment Repair SRM 55111102.
B. Preparation for Installation
(2) Install the attachment screws (1), (2).
(3) TORQUE the screws (1), (2) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in )
in the correct sequence.
(4) Measure the distance between the apron (4) and the fuselage surface.
(7) Attach the shim on the apron (4) and adjust it to the correct dimension.
(8) Drill through the shim to copy the holes of the apron (4).
(9) Remove the shim and clean it with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(10) Apply Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) to the mating surface of the THS.
(11) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) to the surface of the apron (4) and install the shim.
(12) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) to the shim.
(13) Put the apron (4) in position on the THS surface and install the screws (1), (2).
(14) Tighten the screws (1), (2) until the distances between the apron (4) and the THS surface and the fuselage surface are correct.
(16) Let the Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) cure for 24 hours.
(17) Remove the screws (1), (2) and the apron (4).
(18) Remove the excess compound and remove the release agent from the mating surfaces.
(19) Clean the mating surfaces with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(20) Install the seal (14) and the cover strip (12) with the screws (10).
Subtask 55-15-11-420-050-A NOTE: This procedure is applicable for an upper apron. The procedure for a lower apron is the same.
NOTE: This procedure is applicable for all aprons where shims are necessary for the installation.
(1) Put the apron (4) in position. (2) Install the attachment screws (1), (2).
(3) TORQUE the screws (1), (2) to between 0.5 and 0.4 m.daN (44.25 and 35.40 lbf.in )
in the correct sequence. (4) Measure the distance between the apron (4) and the fuselage surface.
- The distance must be 2.5 +1.0 mm or -1.0 mm (0.0984 +0.0394 in. or -0.0394 in.).
- The distance must be 1.0 mm (0.0394 in.) maximum.
(7) Attach the shim on the apron (4) and adjust it to the correct dimension.
(8) Drill through the shim to copy the holes of the apron (4).
(9) Remove the shim and clean it with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(10) Apply Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) to the mating surface of the THS.
(11) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) to the surface of the apron (4) and install the shim.
(12) Apply a 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) layer of Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) to the shim.
(13) Put the apron (4) in position on the THS surface and install the screws (1), (2).
(14) Tighten the screws (1), (2) until the distances between the apron (4) and the THS surface and the fuselage surface are correct.
NOTE: Tighten the screws (1), (2) by hand and in the correct sequence.
(15) Remove the excess compound. (16) Let the Epoxy Adhesive-Metal to metal - Legacy (Material No.05EJL9) cure for 24 hours.
(17) Remove the screws (1), (2) and the apron (4).
(18) Remove the excess compound and remove the release agent from the mating surfaces.
(19) Clean the mating surfaces with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(20) Install the seal (14) and the cover strip (12) with the screws (10).
C. Installation of the Aprons
(1) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) to the mating surfaces of the aprons (4), (9).
(2) Apply the Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) to the mating surfaces of the aprons on the THS surface.
(3) Install the upper apron (4).
(b) Make sure that the holes align with the holes in the THS surface.
(c) Carefully install the screws (1) and (2) as identified during the removal procedure.
(d) Make sure that there is sufficient clearance around each screw shaft.

(f) Make sure that there is a minimum clearance of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) between the apron (4) and the guide profile.
(g) If the minimum clearance is less than 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.), do the subsequent steps:
1 Loosen the screws (1) and (2).
2 Adjust the apron (4) to get the correct clearance.
3 Make sure that there is sufficient clearance around each screw shaft.

(h) Clean the structure.
1 Remove the unwanted sealant with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a lint-free cotton cloth Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(4) Install the lower apron.
(a) Put the apron (9) and the retainer (8) in position.
(b) Make sure that the holes align with the holes in the THS surface.
(c) Carefully install the screws (5), (6) and (7) as identified during the removal procedure.
(d) Make sure that there is sufficient clearance around each screw shaft.

(f) Make sure that there is a minimum clearance of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) between the apron (9) and the guide profile.
(g) If the minimum clearance is less than 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.), do the subsequent steps:

2 Make sure that the drain holes of the horizontal stabilizer spar-box in the related area are clear and not blocked.
Subtask 55-15-11-865-052-A (1) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) to the mating surfaces of the aprons (4), (9).
(2) Apply the Release Agent-- Liquid Wax - (Material No.14DBB1) to the mating surfaces of the aprons on the THS surface.
(3) Install the upper apron (4).
CAUTION:

(e) TORQUE the screws (5), (6) and (7) to between 0.9 and 0.8 m.daN (79.65 and 70.80 lbf.in )
in the correct sequence (f) Make sure that there is a minimum clearance of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) between the apron (9) and the guide profile.
(g) If the minimum clearance is less than 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.), do the subsequent steps:
1 Loosen the screws (5), (6) and (7).
2 Adjust the apron (9) to get the correct clearance.
3 Make sure that there is sufficient clearance around each screw shaft.
NOTE: Do not use force to engage the screws (5), (6) and (7).
4 TORQUE the screws (5), (6) and (7) to between 0.9 and 0.8 m.daN (79.65 and 70.80 lbf.in )
in the correct sequence. (h) Clean the structure.
1 Remove the unwanted sealant with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and a lint-free cotton cloth, Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
2 Make sure that the drain holes of the horizontal stabilizer spar-box in the related area are clear and not blocked.
D. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

E. Operational Test of the Trimmable Horizontal Stabilizer (THS)
(2) Make sure that there is a minimum clearance of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) between the aprons (4), (9) and the guide profiles at all THS positions during its movement.
(3) Make sure that the aprons follow the contour of the fuselage smoothly.
5. Close-upWARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Operate the THS through the complete range (Ref. AMM TASK 27-44-00-710-002). (2) Make sure that there is a minimum clearance of 2.0 mm (0.0787 in.) between the aprons (4), (9) and the guide profiles at all THS positions during its movement.
(3) Make sure that the aprons follow the contour of the fuselage smoothly.

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the access platform(s).
(3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
