3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-49-51-860-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position:
  • In the cockpit, on the right center instrument panel 400VU to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
  • On the steering handwheel (CAPT and F/O) and on the rudder pedals to tell persons not to operate them.
   (2) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (4) Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are de-energized
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-49-51-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Tire Pressure Indicating System (TPIS) Kit
   (1) Install the support (52) or (62) on the lower torque link.
     (a) Install the support (52).
       1 Install the screw (47) through the support (52) and the lower torque link.
       2 Temporarily attach the clamp (48) with the washer (49) and the new AIPC 32-49-08-20-130 NUT (50).
       3 Install the washer (61) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-20-130 NUT (60).
       4 Tighten the nut (60).
       5 Install the bolt (57) through the support (52) and the lower torque link.
       6 Install the washer (58) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-20-130 NUT (59).
       7 Tighten the nut (59).
     (b) Install the support (62).
       1 Install the screw (63) through the lower torque link and the support (62).
       2 Temporarily attach the clamp (48) with the washer (49) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-20-130 NUT (50).
       3 Install the bolt (57) through the support (62) and the lower torque link.
       4 Install the washer (58) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-20-130 NUT (59).
       5 Tighten the nut (59).
   (2) Install and connect the lower electrical harness (22).
     (a) Install the bottom electrical harness (22) on the support (52) or (62) on the lower torque link.
       1 Make sure that the cable is not twisted when you install the bulkhead union (68) or (70) on the support (64).
       2 Install the connector of the bottom electrical harness (22) on the support (52) or (62).
       3 Install the four screws (51).
       4 Tighten the screws (51).
       5 Install the clamp (53) on the bottom electrical harness (22).
       6 Install the bolt (54) through the clamp (53) and the support (52) or (62).
       7 Install the washer (55) and the nut (56).
       8 Tighten the nut (56).
     (b) Carefully install the lower electrical harness (22) through the hole in the sliding rod.
     (c) Attach the bulkhead union (68) or (70) of the bottom harness (22) to the support (64):
       1 Install the washer (65) and the bolt (69) through the bulkhead union (68) or (70) and the support (64).
       2 Install the second washer (65) and the nut (66).
       3 Tighten the nut (66).
       4 Install the new
AIPC 32-21-11-32-050 COTTER PIN (67) to safety the nut (66).
       5 Apply a bead of Polysulfide Sealant-Fuel Tank Quick Curing - (Material No.
06ABF1) around the joint between the sliding rod and the bulkhead union (68) or (70).
     (d) Attach the connector (80) to the support (79) on each side of the wheel axle.
       1 Install the four bolts (81) through the connector (80), the support (79) and into the counter plate (75).
     (e) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors and connect the bottom electrical harness (22) to the electrical connector (80).
     (f) Install the two supports (79) and the attached parts into the ends of the axles.
       1 Install the support (79) on the wheel axle end.
       2 Install the two new AIPC 32-21-13-12-090 BOLTS (74).
       3 Install the two washers (71) and nuts (72).
       4 Tighten the nuts (72) and safety them with the two new
AIPC 32-21-13-12-060 COTTER PINS (73).
     (g) Put the cover (76) in position and install the washers (78) and screws (77).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
       1 Tighten the screws (77) and safety them with lockwire 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (3) Install the protector (38) on the upper torque link.
     (a) Put the protector (38) in position.
     (b) Put the washer (39) on the bolt (40).
     (c) Install the bolt (40) through the protector (38) and the upper torque link.
     (d) Install the second washer (39) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-21-100 NUT (41) dn the bolt (40).
     (e) Tighten the nut (41).
   (4) Install the support (5).
     (a) Remove and discard the nut (35).
     (b) Remove the washer (34).
     (c) Install the support (5), the washer (34) and the new
AIPC 32-21-11-43-170 NUT (35) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-170 NUT (35) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-170 NUT (35) on the screw (32).
NOTE: The screw (32) has an Allen head and a slot at the threaded end.
When you install the shock absorber, you must hold the screw from the slot end. When you remove the shock absorber, you must hold the screw from the head end.
     (d) TORQUE the nut (35) to between 5.2 and 4.4 m.daN (38.35 and 32.45 lbf.ft )
T.
   (5) Install the support (29).
     (a) Remove the lubrication fitting (23) and locating washer (24).
     (b) Remove and discard the nut (25).
     (c) Remove the washer (26).
     (d) Install the support (29), washer (26) and the new
AIPC 32-21-11-43-170 NUT (25) or AIPC 32-21-11-63-170 NUT (25) or AIPC 32-21-11-83-170 NUT (25) on the screw (31).
NOTE: The screw (31) has an Allen head and a slot at the threaded end.
When you install the shock absorber, you must hold the screw from the slot end. When you remove the shock absorber, you must hold the screw from the head end.
     (e) TORQUE the nut (25) to between 5.2 and 4.4 m.daN (38.35 and 32.45 lbf.ft )
T.
     (f) Install the locating washer (24) and the lubrication fitting (23).
   (6) Install the TPIS intermediate electrical-harness (14).
     (a) Attach the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the support assembly (15) or (20).
       1 Install the electrical harness (14) on the support assembly (15):
  • Install the clamp (18) on the intermediate electrical Harness (14).
  • Install the clamp (18) and the washer (16) on the bolt (17).
  • Install the bolt (17) on the support assembly (15).
  • Tighten the bolt (17).
       2 Install the electrical harness (14) on the support assembly (20):
  • Install the clamp (18) on the intermediate electrical harness (14).
  • Install the clamp (18) and the washer (16) on the bolt (17).
  • Install the bolt (17) on the support assembly (20).
  • Install the washer (19) and the nut (21).
  • Tighten the nut (21).
     (b) Attach the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the support (5).
       1 Put the two washers (36) on the two bolts (37).
       2 Install the two bolts (37) and the harness (14) on the support (5).
       3 Tighten the bolts (37).
     (c) Attach the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the support (29).
       1 Put the two washers (28) on the two bolts (27).
       2 Install the two bolts (27) and the harness (14) on the support (29).
       3 Tighten the bolts (27).
     (d) Put the intermediate electrical harness (14) through the protector (38) in the upper torque link.
     (e) Safety the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the top of the upper torque link.
       1 Install the clamp (44) on the intermediate electrical harness (14).
       2 Install the bolt (43) through the clamp (44), the support (42) and the upper torque link.
       3 Install the washer (45) and the new
AIPC 32-49-08-21-060 NUT (46).
       4 Tighten the nut (46).
     (f) Attach the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the support (52) or (62).
       1 For the support (52):
  • Install the clamp (48) on the intermediate electrical harness (14).
  • Install the clamp (48) on the screw (47).
  • Install the washer (49) and the nut (50).
  • Tighten the nut (50).
       2 For the support (62):
  • Remove the nut (50), washer (49) and clamp (48) from the screw (63).
  • Install the clamp (48) on the intermediate electrical harness (14).
  • Install the clamp (48) on the screw (63).
  • Install the washer (49) and the nut (50).
  • Tighten the nut (50).
     (g) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors and connect the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the bottom electrical harness (22).
     (h) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors and connect the intermediate electrical harness (14) to the 1M top harness (13).
   (7) Install the cover (8).
     (a) For single-linkage version only:
       1 Put the cover (8) in position and install the bolt (2) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-51-060 LOCKWASHER (3) through the cover (8) and the cover (1).
       2 Install the washer (9) and the new
AIPC 32-21-11-51-080 NUT (10) on the bolt (2).
       3 Tighten the nut (10).
       4 Lock the washer (3).
     (b) For dual-linkage version only:
       1 Put the cover (8) in position and install the bolt (2) with the new
AIPC 32-21-11-51-060 LOCKWASHER (3) through the cover (8), the first spacer (12), the cover (11) and the second spacer (12).
       2 Install the washer (9) and the new
AIPC 32-21-11-51-080 NUT (10) on the bolt (2).
       3 Tighten the nut (10).
       4 Lock the washer (3).
   (8) Attach the cover (8) to the support (5).
     (a) Put the two washers (7) on the two bolts (6).
     (b) Install the two bolts (6) through the support (5) and the cover (8) and install the two new
AIPC 32-49-08-22-090 NUTS (4).
     (c) Tighten the two nuts (4).

C. Functional Test
   (1) Do a functional test of the steering system (Ref. AMM TASK 32-51-00-720-003).
5. Close-up
Subtask 32-49-51-860-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the safety barriers.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
