Installation of the NLG Travel-Limitation Bar

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-42-52-860-051-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) In the cockpit, on the right center instrument-panel 400VU, make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing-gear control lever.
   (2) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (3) Make sure that the doors of the NLG are open (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (4) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position below the NLG doors in zone 123 and 124.
   (5) Make sure that the avionics compartment doors 812 and 822 are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-002).
   (6) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position below the avionics compartment doors 812 and 822 in zone 123 and 124.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-42-52-914-050-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (3) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.

B. Installation of the NLG Travel-Limitation Bar
NOTE: Two persons are necessary for this procedure: one to install the nuts (4) from the right and left avionics compartments and the other to install the bolts (1) from the NLG wheel well.
   (1) Put the fitting stops (2) on the bar (7).
   (2) Put the spacers (6) in position in the bar (7) and install the bolts (3) and nuts (5).
NOTE: The elongated holes of the bar must be on the left side of the wheel well.
   (3) On the right side, tighten the nut (5).
   (4) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) on the fitting stops (2) and make the layer smooth.
   (5) Put the bar assembly in position on the aircraft structure.
   (6) Install the bolts (1) and nuts (4).
   (7) Tighten the nuts (4).
   (8) Tighten the nut (5) on the left side.

C. Temporary Protection System (TPS)
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY TEMPORARY PROTECTION SYSTEM (TPS) TYPE 3 ON THE MOVABLE COMPONENTS. USE ONLY TPS TYPE 1 GRADE 2. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE MECHANISMS WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
   (1) If there is a TPS layer, make sure that it is in the correct condition (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
NOTE: Airbus recommends that you always apply a new layer of TPS. This is to make sure that the TPS layer continues to give a satisfactory corrosion protection. If, after the check, you think that the TPS layer is in the correct condition, you can spray a new layer on the existing layer.
   (2) If the TPS layer has local damage, remove the damaged TPS layer (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001) and apply a new layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing & Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ADB1) on the inspection area (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (3) Apply a full new layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing & Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.12ADB1) on the inspection area (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001) if, before the inspection:
  • You removed the TPS layer, or
  • You cleaned the inspection area with high-pressure water, steam, solvents and/or cleaning agents.
5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the safety barrier(s).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
   (5) Close the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).
