A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-010):

   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) in position below the engine.

C. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Deactivate the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

F. Inspection of the Couplings
4. Procedure
Subtask 30-21-49-820-053-M ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Adjustment of the Ducts
   (1) Make sure that the nut of the couplings (1), (2) and (3) are loose but sufficiently tight to hold the anti-ice duct in position.
   (2) Put the gage P/N 98D54503005 206 of the 98D54503005000 IAE - STOP PLATE between the pylon stop plate and the Nacelle Anti-Icing (NAI) pylon duct in the fire bulkhead area (see Detail C).
   (3) Do a visual check of the NAI duct No. 3 and NAI duct No. 4 and make sure that they are correctly aligned with the coupling (4). If they are not correctly aligned
     (a) Loosen the nut of the coupling (4).
     (b) Align the NAI duct No. 3 and NAI duct No. 4.
     (c) TORQUE the coupling nut (4) to between 55 and 45 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.51 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).

PRE SBE 80-0022

   (4) Remove the nuts (10), bolts (11), washers (9) and bushes (8) from the bearing link assemblies (5), (6) and (7) (see Details A and E) and loosen the locknuts of the links (5), (6) and (7) (see Sections C-C and D-D).
   (5) Adjust the NAI ducts No. 3 and 4 to get the correct clearances.
     (a) Turn the head of the bearing link assemblies (5), (6) and (7) to set their length to make sure that:
  • The segments are correctly installed in their housings and the NAI pylon duct stays aligned to the center in the fire bulkhead area (see Detail C).
  • The clearance between the coupling (3) of the NAI duct No. 3 and the engine frame is 26.00 +2 mm or -2 mm (1.02 +0.08 in. or -0.08 in.) (see Section A-A).
  • The clearance between the NAI duct No. 3 and the upper link of the starter duct is not less than 6.00 mm (0.24 in.) (see Detail D).
  • The clearance between the NAI duct No. 4 and the engine ring insulation is not less than 10.00 mm (0.39 in.) (see Section B-B).
NOTE: Do not lock the bearing link assemblies at this time.
   (6) Install the bolts (11), bushes (8), washers (9) and nuts (10) on the bearing link assemblies (5), (6) and (7) and tight the nuts (10) with your hand only.
   (7) Do a check of the bearing link assemblies (5), (6) and (7).
     (a) Use the safety holes to make sure that there is sufficient number of connecting rod threads engaged in the rod end bearings.

POST SBE 80-0022

   (8) Remove the nut (10), bolt (11), washer (9) and bush (8) from the bearing link assembly (7) (see Details A and E) and loosen the locknuts of the links (5), (6) and (7).
   (9) Adjust the NAI ducts No. 3 and 4 to get the correct clearances:
     (a) Turn the head of the bearing link assembly (7) to set its length and turn the central adjustment nut of the turnbuckle link assemblies (5) and (6) to make sure that:
  • The segments are correctly installed in their housings and that the NAI pylon duct stays aligned to the center in the fire bulkhead area (see Detail C).
  • The clearance between the coupling (3) of the NAI duct No. 3 and the engine frame is 26.00 +2 mm or -2 mm (1.02 +0.08 in. or -0.08 in.) (see Section A-A).
  • The clearance between the NAI duct No. 3 and the upper link of the starter duct is not less than 6.00 mm (0.24 in.) (see Detail D).
  • The clearance between the NAI duct No. 4 and the engine ring insulation is not less than 10.00 mm (0.39 in.) (see Section B-B).

   (10) Install the bolt (11), bush (8), washer (9) and nut (10) on the bearing link assembly (7) and tight the nut (10) with your hand only.
   (11) Do a check of the turnbuckle links (5) and (6) and the bearing link assembly (7).
     (a) Use the safety holes to make sure that there is sufficient number of connecting rod threads engaged in the rod end bearings.

   (12) Tighten the three nuts of the couplings (1), (2) and (3) in the sequence that follows:
  • The coupling (1)
  • The coupling (2)
  • The coupling (3).
   (13) TORQUE the coupling nuts (1) , (2) and (3) to between 55 and 45 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.51 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013).
   (14) Remove the gage P/N 98D54503005 206 between the pylon stop plate and the NAI pylon duct at the fire bulkhead area (see Detail C).
   (15) Do a visual inspection and make sure that the segments and the NAI pylon duct do not touch in the fire bulkhead area. If they do, do Steps (2) thru (14) again.

B. Movement of the Duct N°4

PRE SBE 80-0022

   (1) Move the duct N°4 with your hand at location 01 (see Detail A) along its axis.
     (a) If you hear clicks in the fire bulkhead area:
       1 Remove the nut (10), bolt (11), washer (9) and bush (8) from the bearing link assembly (6).
       2 Turn the head of the bearing link assembly (6) a 180-degrees turn to decrease its length.
       3 Install the nut (10), bolt (11), washer (9) and bush (8) to the bearing link assembly (6) and tight the nut (10) with your hand only.
       4 Do Steps (1) (a) 1_ thru (1) (a) 3_ again until you hear no more clicks.
         a If the clicks continue, remove or decrease them to their maximum and make sure that all the clearances agree with the values given in the adjustment of the ducts of this procedure.
     (b) If you hear no clicks from the fire bulkhead area, then the NAI duct is correctly installed.

POST SBE 80-0022

   (2) Move the duct N°4 at location 01 with your hand (see Detail A) along its axis.
     (a) If you hear clicks from the fire bulkhead area:
       1 Turn the central adjustment nut of the turnbuckle link assembly (6) a quarter turn to decrease its length.
       2 Do Step (2) (a) 1_ again until you hear no more clicks.
         a If the clicks continue, remove or decrease them to their maximum and make sure that all the clearances agree with the values given in the adjustment of the ducts of this procedure.
     (b) If you hear no click from the fire bulkhead area, then the NAI duct is correctly installed.

     (b) Tighten with your hands and lock the locknut of the bearing link assemblies (5), (6) and (7).

   (1) TORQUE the nut (10) to between 110 and 90 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.02 m.daN ) T (Ref. AMM TASK 70-23-11-911-013) of the bearing link assembly (7).
   (2) Tighten with your hand and lock the locknut of the turnbuckle link assemblies (5) and (6), and the locknut of bearing link assembly (7),
   (3) Safety the locknut of the turnbuckle link assemblies (5) and (6) with the tabs washers.
