Removal of the Yellow Engine-2 Thrust-Reverser Case-Drain Check-Valve

CAUTION: DO NOT LET HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED HYDRAULIC FLUID MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 29-13-35-860-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002).
   (2) Depressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that the slats are in the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-50-00-866-009).

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) On AIR COND panel 30VU:
  • Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate this pushbutton switch.
   (2) Open access door 198CB.
   (3) On the ground-service panel of the Yellow hydraulic system:
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (4) On the HYD section of panel 40VU:
  • Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (5) Open access door 195BB and put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system.
   (6) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).
   (7) On FLAPS panel 114VU:
  • Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever (Ref. AMM TASK 27-00-00-480-002).
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the flap/slat control lever to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

D. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

E. Close Access
   (1) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

F. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at the pylon.
   (2) Remove access panel 423AL (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-805).
4. Procedure
Subtask 29-13-35-020-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Thrust-Reverser Case-Drain Check-Valve
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE CHECK VALVE AS THE HYDRAULIC FLUID WILL FLOW OUT.
   (1) Put a CONTAINER 20L (5 USGAL) below the drain mast, on the bottom of the engine at the 6 o'clock position, to collect the remaining hydraulic fluid.
   (2) Put a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) below the connections of the thrust-reverser case-drain check-valve (2) with the T-duct (1) and pipe (3).
   (3) Put a WRENCH - STANDARD on the flats of the T-fitting body to hold it, and disconnect the coupling nut of the pipe (3).
   (4) Disconnect the coupling nut of the pipe (3) from the thrust-reverser case-drain check-valve (2).
   (5) Remove the pipe (3) from the pylon.
   (6) Remove the thrust-reverser case-drain check-valve (2) from the T-duct (1).
   (7) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
   (8) Put a CAP - PROTECTION on the two ends of the thrust-reverser case-drain check-valve (2).
