Subtask 28-11-37-860-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Obey the safety procedures when you work in a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(3) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
(4) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position on:

Refuel/defuel control-panels 800VU and 801VU
Fuel control-panel 40VU
Additional Center Tank (ACT) control-panel 28VU
to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.

B. Get Access

WARNING: BEFORE YOU REMOVE A MANHOLE COVER FROM THE ACT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVE THE ACT FROM THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

(1) Remove the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) from the aft cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
(2) Remove the outer manhole cover from the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).

B. Get Access

WARNING: BEFORE YOU REMOVE A MANHOLE COVER FROM THE ACT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVE THE ACT FROM THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

(1) Remove the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) from the cargo compartment:
(a) For ACT AFT2:
1 Remove ACT AFT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-003).
(b) For ACT AFT1:
1 Remove ACT AFT1 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-002).
(2) Remove the outer manhole cover from the ACT (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-37-000-004).

4. Procedure
Subtask 28-11-37-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Removal of the inner manhole cover.

Inner Manhole Cover of the ACT ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

(1) Remove the nuts (5) and the washers (4) in a sequence opposite to one another from the inner manhole cover (3)
(2) Identify the nuts (5) and the washers (4) removed from the bonding points of the inner manhole cover (3).

NOTE: This is to make sure that the nuts and washers have the same position when you install the inner manhole cover.

(3) Remove the inner manhole cover (3) from the ACT (1).
(4) Remove and discard the O-ring (2) from the ACT (1).
(5) Put a COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT.

NOTE: This will keep dirt, chips or other unwanted material out of the ACT.

Subtask 28-11-37-020-050-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL

A. Removal of the Inner Manhole Cover

NOTE: The procedure for the removal of the inner manhole cover is the same for all the ACT.

(1) Make match marks on the components that you disconnect/remove to record their connections/positions. This is important for the subsequent installation procedure.
(2) Remove the nuts (4), the washers (5) and the sealing rings (6) from the inner manhole cover (2) in a sequence opposite to one another.
(3) Discard the sealing rings (6).
(4) Remove the inner manhole cover (2) from the ACT (1).
(5) Remove and discard the O-ring (3) from the ACT (1).
(6) Put the COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT (1).

NOTE: The COVER - PROTECTION will keep dirt, chips or other unwanted materials out of the ACT.
