Removal of the Outer Manhole-Cover ACT

IF NECESSARY, GET MEDICAL HELP.
AIRCRAFT FUEL IS POISONOUS.

DO NOT GET YOUR CLOTHES SOAKED WITH FUEL.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Obey the fuel safety procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
(2) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in positions on:

(2) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in positions on:
- Refuel/defuel control-panels 800VU and 801VU
- Fuel control-panel 40VU
- Additional Center Tank (ACT) control-panel 28VU
to tell persons not to operate the fuel system.
B. Get Access
(1) Remove the Additional Center Tank (ACT) from the cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
Subtask 28-11-37-010-056-D ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the Additional Center Tank (ACT) from the cargo-compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-001).
NOTE: Always remove the ACT from the cargo-compartment before you remove a manhole cover from the ACT.
B. Get Access
(a) For ACT AFT2:
1 Remove ACT AFT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-003).
(b) For ACT AFT1:
1 Remove ACT AFT1 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-002).
4. ProcedureWARNING:
BEFORE YOU REMOVE A MANHOLE COVER FROM THE ACT, MAKE SURE THAT YOU REMOVE THE ACT FROM THE CARGO COMPARTMENT. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
(1) Remove the applicable Additional Center Tank (ACT) from the cargo-compartment: (a) For ACT AFT2:
1 Remove ACT AFT2 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-003).
(b) For ACT AFT1:
1 Remove ACT AFT1 (Ref. AMM TASK 28-11-27-000-002).

A. Removal of the outer manhole cover.
(1) Obey the safety procedures when you work on a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (2) in a sequence opposite to one another from the outer manhole cover (4).
(3) Identify the screws (3) and the washers (2) removed from the bonding points of the outer manhole cover (4).
(5) Remove and discard the sealing-flat (5) from the ACT (1).
(6) Put a COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT.
Subtask 28-11-37-020-055-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Obey the safety procedures when you work on a fuel tank (Ref. AMM TASK 28-10-00-910-001).
(2) Remove the screws (3) and the washers (2) in a sequence opposite to one another from the outer manhole cover (4).
(3) Identify the screws (3) and the washers (2) removed from the bonding points of the outer manhole cover (4).
NOTE: This is to make sure that the screws have the same position when you install the outer manhole cover.
(4) Remove the outer manhole cover (4) from the ACT (1). (5) Remove and discard the sealing-flat (5) from the ACT (1).
(6) Put a COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT.
NOTE: This will keep dirt, chips or other unwanted material out of the interspaces of the inner and outer manhole.
A. Removal of the Outer Manhole Cover
(2) Remove the bolts (4), the washers (5) and (6) from the outer manhole cover (2) in a sequence opposite to one another.
(3) Remove the outer manhole cover (2) from the ACT (1).
(4) Remove and discard the sealing flat (3) from the ACT (1).
(5) Put the COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT (1).
NOTE: The procedure for the removal of the outer manhole cover is the same for all the ACTs.
(1) Make match marks on the components that you disconnect/remove to record their connections/positions. This is important for the subsequent installation procedure.(2) Remove the bolts (4), the washers (5) and (6) from the outer manhole cover (2) in a sequence opposite to one another.
(3) Remove the outer manhole cover (2) from the ACT (1).
(4) Remove and discard the sealing flat (3) from the ACT (1).
(5) Put the COVER - PROTECTION on the manhole of the ACT (1).
NOTE: The COVER - PROTECTION will keep dirt, chips or other unwanted material out of the space between the inner and outer manhole.
