Removal of the Engine Fire-Extinguishing Pipe
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

Subtask 26-21-49-941-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(4) On the AIR COND panel 30VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG 1(2) BLEED pushbutton switch is released.
(b) Make sure that the APU BLEED pushbutton switch is released.
(c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to operate the pneumatic system.
(5) In the cockpit, on the HP ground connector:
(a) put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.
Subtask 26-21-49-865-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine 1(2).

(5) In the cockpit, on the HP ground connector:
(a) put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system.

MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) Deactivate the thrust reverser hydraulic control unit (HCU) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). E. Get Access
(1) Remove the left thrust reverser half:
(a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

WARNING:
DO NOT TOUCH THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE YOU DO THE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO DEVICES THAT ARE SENSITIVE TO ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE. ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE CAN CAUSE THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BOTTLE TO RELEASE ITS CONTENTS SUDDENLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
B. Disconnection of the Electrical Connectors from the Fire Extinguisher Bottles NOTE: If the two fire extinguisher bottles are not installed, go to Para.4.D.
(1) Do these steps for each fire extinguisher bottle: (a) Before you touch the cartridge, refer to the handling precautions for devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge (Ref. AMM TASK 20-15-00-910-001).
(b) Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the cartridge (1).
(c) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
C. Installation of the Safety Tools
(a) Put a 263193 SHUNT PLUG-FIRE EXTINGUISHER CARTRIDGE on the cartridge (1).
Subtask 26-21-49-020-051-C ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
BEFORE YOU TOUCH THE POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE GROUNDED AND THAT YOU INSTALL A SHUNT DEVICE ON IT. USE A CAP OR PLUG AS SHUNT DEVICE (THE CAP OR PLUG WILL SHUNT THE PINS TOGETHER ON THE CARTRIDGE). DO NOT USE A FOIL SHUNT.
IF YOU TOUCH A POWER DEVICE CARTRIDGE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A SHUNT DEVICE INSTALLED, AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURIES TO YOU.
(1) Do this step for each fire extinguisher bottle: (a) Put a 263193 SHUNT PLUG-FIRE EXTINGUISHER CARTRIDGE on the cartridge (1).
D. Removal of the Engine Fire-Extinguishing Pipes
(1) Removal of the pipe (3):
(a) Removal of the lockwire:
2 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (16) of the pipe (4) and the end fitting (14) of the pipe (3).
(b) Loosen the knurled nut (8) of the pipe (3) from the union (10).
(c) Loosen the knurled nut (16) of the pipe (4) from the end fitting (14) of the pipe (3).
(d) Remove the pipe (3).
1 Discard the O-ring (9) from the union (10).
2 Discard the O-ring (15) from the pipe (3).
(2) Removal of the pipe (4):
(a) Removal of the lockwire:
2 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (17) of the pipe (4) and the end fitting (19) of the pipe (5).
(b) Loosen the knurled nut (13) of the pipe (4) from the union (11).
(c) Loosen the knurled nut (17) of the pipe (4) from the end fitting (19) of the pipe (5).
(d) Remove the three bolts (36), the three spacers (37) and the three washers (38).
(e) Remove the rubber pad (39).
(f) Remove the pipe (4) from the support (40).
1 Discard the O-ring (12) from the union (11).
2 Discard the O-ring (18) from the pipe (5).
(3) Removal of the pipe (5):
(a) Remove the bolt (21) and the washer (20) from the clamp (22).
(b) Remove the three bolts (30), the three washers (31) and the three nuts (32).
(c) Disengage the pipe (5) from the pipe (6).
(d) Remove the pipe (5) and the clamp (22) from the support (23).
(e) Disengage the clamp (22) from the pipe (5).
(f) Discard the O-ring (33) from the pipe (5).
(4) Removal of the pipe (7):
(b) Remove the three bolts (25) and the three washers (24) from the three clamps (26).
(c) Remove the pipe (7) and the three clamps (26) from the supports (28) and the pipe (6).
(d) Disengage the three clamps (26) and the three bushings (27) from the pipe (7).
(5) Removal of the pipe (6):
(a) Remove the lateral bulkhead (52):
1 Remove the seal (50).
2 Remove the screw (51), washer (55) and nut (56).
3 Remove the three bolts (45), the three washers (62) and the three nuts (61).
a Remove the shim (44).
4 Remove the bolt (46), washer (59) and nut (60).
5 Remove the two bolts (47), the two washers (53) and the two nuts (54).
a Remove the shim (48).
6 Remove the bolt (49), washer (57) and nut (58).
7 Remove the lateral bulkhead (52) from the fairing (41).
(b) Remove the bolt (67) and the washer (66) from the clamp (68).
(c) Remove the bolt (65) and the washer (64) from the clamp (63).
(d) Remove the pipe (6) and the clamp (68) from the fairing (41), rib (34), support (69) and clamp (63).
(e) Remove the clamp (68) from the pipe (6).
(6) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
(1) Removal of the pipe (3):
(a) Removal of the lockwire:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (8) of the pipe (3) and the union (10). 2 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (16) of the pipe (4) and the end fitting (14) of the pipe (3).
(b) Loosen the knurled nut (8) of the pipe (3) from the union (10).
(c) Loosen the knurled nut (16) of the pipe (4) from the end fitting (14) of the pipe (3).
(d) Remove the pipe (3).
1 Discard the O-ring (9) from the union (10).
2 Discard the O-ring (15) from the pipe (3).
(2) Removal of the pipe (4):
(a) Removal of the lockwire:
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (13) of the pipe (4) and the union (11). 2 Cut and discard the lockwire between the knurled nut (17) of the pipe (4) and the end fitting (19) of the pipe (5).
(b) Loosen the knurled nut (13) of the pipe (4) from the union (11).
(c) Loosen the knurled nut (17) of the pipe (4) from the end fitting (19) of the pipe (5).
(d) Remove the three bolts (36), the three spacers (37) and the three washers (38).
(e) Remove the rubber pad (39).
(f) Remove the pipe (4) from the support (40).
1 Discard the O-ring (12) from the union (11).
2 Discard the O-ring (18) from the pipe (5).
(3) Removal of the pipe (5):
(a) Remove the bolt (21) and the washer (20) from the clamp (22).
(b) Remove the three bolts (30), the three washers (31) and the three nuts (32).
(c) Disengage the pipe (5) from the pipe (6).
(d) Remove the pipe (5) and the clamp (22) from the support (23).
(e) Disengage the clamp (22) from the pipe (5).
(f) Discard the O-ring (33) from the pipe (5).
(4) Removal of the pipe (7):
CAUTION:
USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTERTORQUE TO THE UNION WHEN YOU DISCONNECT/CONNECT EQUIPMENT FROM FLEXIBLE HOSES AND RIGID TUBING.
IF YOU DO NOT USE THE SECOND WRENCH, THERE IS A RISK THAT YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HOSES AND TUBES.
(a) Hold the nut (35) and loosen the nut (29) on the pipe (7). (b) Remove the three bolts (25) and the three washers (24) from the three clamps (26).
(c) Remove the pipe (7) and the three clamps (26) from the supports (28) and the pipe (6).
(d) Disengage the three clamps (26) and the three bushings (27) from the pipe (7).
(5) Removal of the pipe (6):
(a) Remove the lateral bulkhead (52):
1 Remove the seal (50).
2 Remove the screw (51), washer (55) and nut (56).
3 Remove the three bolts (45), the three washers (62) and the three nuts (61).
a Remove the shim (44).
4 Remove the bolt (46), washer (59) and nut (60).
5 Remove the two bolts (47), the two washers (53) and the two nuts (54).
a Remove the shim (48).
6 Remove the bolt (49), washer (57) and nut (58).
7 Remove the lateral bulkhead (52) from the fairing (41).
(b) Remove the bolt (67) and the washer (66) from the clamp (68).
(c) Remove the bolt (65) and the washer (64) from the clamp (63).
(d) Remove the pipe (6) and the clamp (68) from the fairing (41), rib (34), support (69) and clamp (63).
(e) Remove the clamp (68) from the pipe (6).
(6) Put the PLUG-BLANKING in each disconnected line end.
