1. Reason for the Job
This task provides instructions for servicing the starter with oil and draining the starter of oil. There are two methods that you can use to fill the starter with oil:
(a) The preferred method is to use a tool in the magnetic plug housing to pressure fill oil to the starter. This method is used after you install the starter on the engine.
(b) The alternative method uses the oil fill plug to gravity fill oil to the starter. This method is used before you install the starter on the engine.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 80-11-05-941-056-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

4. Procedure
Subtask 80-11-05-680-050-A
A. Oil Draining Procedure
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Remove the magnetic plug (2) from the oil drain plug (1) as follows:
NOTE: The magnetic plug is different part from the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug includes a check valve to prevent oil leaks when the magnetic plug is removed.
     (a) Push the magnetic plug (2) with your hand and turn it counterclockwise until it stops.
NOTE: The magnetic plug is a bayonet type. Do not remove the oil drain plug and the safety cable to drain the oil.
     (b) Pull the magnetic plug (2) from the oil drain plug (1).
   (2) Examine the magnetic plug (2) for the quantity and type of contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-05-210-801).
   (3) Drain the oil from the starter:
WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
     (a) Put a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the starter to catch the oil.
     (b) Cut the safety cable that secures the oil drain plug (1) to the starter.
     (c) Remove the oil drain plug (1).
     (d) Drain the oil into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
   (4) Install the oil drain plug (1) as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the packing (4) from the oil drain plug (1).
     (b) Apply clean engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to a new EIPC 80-11-05-05-020 PACKING (4).
     (c) Install the new packing (4) on the oil drain plug (1).
     (d) Put the oil drain plug (1) into the oil drain port on the starter.
     (e) TORQUE the oil drain plug (1) to between 40 and 20 lbf.in (0.45 and 0.23 m.daN )

     (f) Safety the oil drain plug (1) to the starter with CP8006safety cable 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia..CP8002Lockwire 0.032 in (0.8 mm) dia.is an acceptable replacement for safety cable for completion of this task.
   (5) Install the magnetic plug (2) as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the packings (3) from the magnetic plug (2).
     (b) Apply clean engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the two new EIPC 80-11-05-05-012 PACKINGS (3).
     (c) Install the two new packings (3) on the magnetic plug (2).
     (d) Put the magnetic plug (2) in the oil drain plug (1) and align the bayonet pins with the slots.
     (e) Push the magnetic plug (2) until the pins touch the bottom of the slots and turn the plug clockwise until it locks.

B. Starter Servicing (Oil Fill)
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Before the starter is installed on the Accessory Gearbox (AGB), remove the oil fill plug (5) as follows:
     (a) Turn the starter until the oil fill plug (5) is up.
     (b) Remove the safety cable from the oil fill plug (5).
     (c) Remove the oil fill plug (5) from the starter.
     (d) Discard the packing (6) from the oil fill plug (5).
   (2) Gravity fill the starter with engine oil as follows:
WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERFILL THE STARTER. IF YOU PUT TOO MUCH OIL IN THE STARTER, THE OIL WILL FLOW INTO THE ENGINE OIL TANK.
     (a) Fill the starter with 27.46 in.3 (449.99 cm3) to 33.56 in.3 (549.95 cm3) of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
       1 Use the same type of engine oil as in the engine AGB.
NOTE: The AGB supplies engine oil to the starter.
     (b) Apply clean engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to a new EIPC 80-11-05-05-040 PACKING (6).
     (c) Install the new packing (6) on the oil fill plug (5).
     (d) Install the oil fill plug (5) in the fill port of the starter.
     (e) TORQUE the oil fill plug (5) to between 40 and 20 lbf.in (0.45 and 0.23 m.daN )

     (f) Safety the oil fill plug to the starter with CP8006safety cable 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia..CP8002Lockwire 0.032 in (0.8 mm) dia. is an acceptable replacement for safety cable for completion of this task.
     (g) Continue with the starter installation steps (
Ref. AMM TASK 80-11-05-400-801).

C. Starter Servicing (Oil Fill Preferred Method)
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Remove the magnetic plug (2) as follows:
NOTE: The preferred method uses an adapter and a CART - PRESSURIZING, OIL ( BOTTLE - SQUEEZE or similar) to service the starter.
NOTE: Do not remove the magnetic plug housing or the safety cable. The removal of the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug) will drain the oil from the starter.
     (a) Push the magnetic plug (2) with your hand and turn it counter-clockwise until it stops.
NOTE: The magnetic plug is a bayonet type.
     (b) Pull the magnetic plug (2) from the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug (1)).
   (2) Fill the starter with engine oil as follows:
WARNING: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERFILL THE STARTER. IF YOU PUT TOO MUCH OIL IN THE STARTER, THE OIL WILL FLOW INTO THE ENGINE OIL TANK.
     (a) Install and fully depress the adapter DB75 into the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug (1)).
NOTE: For the oil pressure fill method, any of the DB75 servicing tools listed can be used. Order the appropriate tool for the job.
The DB75 comes with a 24 in. (0.6 m) hose, the DB75-48 comes with a 48 in. (1.2 m) hose and the DB75-108 comes with a 108 in. (2.7 m) hose.

     (b) Connect the hose of the adapter to a CART - PRESSURIZING, OIL such as a BOTTLE - SQUEEZE or similar.
     (c) Fill the starter with 27.46 in.3 (449.99 cm3) to 33.56 in.3 (549.95 cm3) of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
NOTE: Use the same type of oil as in the AGB. The AGB supplies engine oil to the starter after it is installed.
NOTE: If oil does not flow into the starter, make sure to fully depress the adapter DB75 to make sure there is correct engagement.
     (d) Remove the adapter DB75 from the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug (1)).
   (3) Install the magnetic plug (2) as follows:
     (a) Remove and discard the preformed packings (3) from the magnetic plug (2).
     (b) Apply the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to the two new preformed packings (3).
     (c) Install the preformed packings (3) on the magnetic plug (2).
     (d) Put the magnetic plug (2) in the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug (1)).
     (e) Align the bayonet pins on the magnetic plug (2) with the slots on the magnetic plug housing (oil drain plug (1)).
     (f) Push the magnetic plug (2) until the pins touch the bottom of the slots and turn the plug clockwise until it locks.
