Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS AFTER ENGINE SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE OIL AND THE ADJACENT COMPONENTS CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Do the procedure to prevent engine motoring and to stop the electrical supply to the Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-832).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)

   (2) Put a STEPLADDER 0.5 M (1.6 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

A. Drain the engine oil from the oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-680-801).

B. Remove the Oil-Debris Monitoring (ODM) sensor (Ref. AMM TASK 79-35-21-000-801).

C. Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator
   (1)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (b) Remove the three bolts (1) and the bracket (2) from the deaerator and tube (LB03) (3).
     (c) Remove and discard the packing (4).
     (d)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (e) Remove and discard the seal (15).
     (f)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (g) Remove the four bolts (27), the two clamps (26) and the tube (LB03) (3) from the fan case and two brackets.
   (2)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Install the PWA211186 EXTRACTOR MAIN GEARBOX onto the vent valve (37) packing groove.
     (b) Make sure that the PWA211186 EXTRACTOR MAIN GEARBOX is engaged to the vent valve (37) correctly.
     (c) Turn the PWA211186 EXTRACTOR MAIN GEARBOX handle to engage the two jaws to the vent valve (37).
     (d) Pull up on the PWA211186 EXTRACTOR MAIN GEARBOX handle and remove the vent valve (37) from the deaerator (50).
     (e) Remove the vent valve (37) from the PWA211186 EXTRACTOR MAIN GEARBOX.
     (f) Remove and discard the packing (38).
   (3)
F Removal of the Oil Tank Deaerator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Remove the four bolts (48) and the four washers (49) from the deaerator (50).
     (b) Install the two jackscrews to the deaerator (50) to disengage and remove it from the oil tank.
     (c) Remove and discard the packing (51).
   (4) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
