WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

4. Procedure
Subtask 72-62-00-020-054-A
A. Removal of the Transfer Gearbox Assembly
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY. THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
   (1) Put the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) below the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
   (2) Remove the N2 sensor (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 77-11-10-000-802).
   (3) Disconnect the slider (20) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-00-000-803).
   (4) Disconnection of the oil tube (6) from the transfer gearbox assembly (1):
     (a) Loosen the coupling nut (7) to disconnect the oil tube (6) from the union (8) of the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
     (b) Disconnect the oil tube (6).
     (c) Let the oil drain into the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL).
   (5) Remove the transfer gearbox transfer shaft (11) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-41-000-801).
   (6) Remove the six bolts (16) and the six washers (17) that attach the transfer gearbox assembly (1) to the transfer gearbox mount (15).
   (7) Move the transfer gearbox assembly (1):
WARNING: A MINIMUM OF TWO PERSONS ARE NECESSARY TO HOLD AND MOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. THE WEIGHT OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY IS APPROXIMATELY 36.4 LB (16.5 KG). IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS PRECAUTION, INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
WARNING: MOVE THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY SLOWLY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT AND THE GEARBOX. THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY IS HEAVY. INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: DURING REMOVAL OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX ASSEMBLY, BE CAREFUL NOT TO LET THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX RADIAL SHAFT FALL. IF YOU DO, DAMAGE TO THE RADIAL SHAFT CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Move the transfer gearbox assembly (1) fully out of the transfer gearbox mount (15).

   (8) Disconnect the transfer gearbox radial shaft (outer) (18):
CAUTION: IF THE TRANSFER-GEARBOX RADIAL SHAFT (OUTER) REMAINS IN THE FAN FRAME SHROUD, REMOVE IT CARREFULLY. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE RADIAL SHAFT OR THE FAN FRAME SHROUD CAN OCCUR.
     (a) Disconnect the transfer gearbox radial shaft (outer) (18) from the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
   (9) Remove and discard the O-ring (21) from the groove of the shaft (23).

POST SB 72-0337
   (10) Disconnect the transfer gearbox radial shaft (outer) (18) from the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE OIL LEVEL RING FROM THE BEVEL GEAR OF THE TRANSFER GEARBOX, MAKE SURE THAT YOU DISCARD THE OIL LEVEL RING AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW ONE. THE OIL LEVEL RING IS AN EXPENDABLE. IF YOU DO NOT REPLACE IT AT EACH REMOVAL, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE GEAR SPLINES WILL NOT BE LUBRICATED CORRECTLY.
   (11) Remove and discard the oil level ring (25) from the groove of the shaft (23).

   (12) Remove and discard the ball joint seal (22) from the groove of the slider (20).
   (13) Remove and discard the O-ring (19) from the groove of the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
   (14) If the transfer gearbox assembly (1) returns to overhaul, remove the slider (20) from the transfer gearbox assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 72-62-43-000-801).
   (15) Install the COVER - PROTECTION and the CAP - PROTECTION on all the open ports, open tubes, open hoses and disconnected connectors.
   (16) Remove the CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) from below the transfer gearbox assembly (1).
