WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives the criteria for the visual inspection of the fan disk.
NOTE: The inspection criteria below are applicable after the removal of the high metal.
NOTE: You can use equivalent alternatives for standard tools, equipment and consumable materials.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 72-21-45-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Install a MAT - PROTECTIVE in the lower half of the inlet cowl.

B. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
   (2) Remove the fan blades and shields (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-20-000-801) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-44-000-801).

1.Visual inspection of all areas, except the dovetail slots, area D, area E, area H, area F, area J, area K and area L:


A.Dents
Any number, up to:
  • 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) in depth
  • 0.020 in. (0.51 mm) in length.

B.Nicks
Any number, up to:
  • 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) in depth
  • 0.020 in. (0.51 mm) in length.

C.Scratches
Any number, up to:
  • 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) in depth
  • 0.020 in. (0.51 mm) in length.

2.Visual inspection of area D:


A.Nicks, dents and scratches
  • If the indication is lower than 0.00098 in. (0.025 mm) deep, the part is serviceable.
  • If the indication is included between 0.00098 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.00197 in. (0.050 mm) deep, a Continued-In-Service of 3000 cycles is permitted before part removal.
  • If the indication is greater than 0.00197 in. (0.050 mm) deep, the part is not serviceable.

3.Visual inspection of the dovetail slots:

7.Visual inspection of area F:


A.Dents
Any number, up to:
  • 0.00098 in. (0.02 mm) in depth
  • 0.0098 in. (0.25 mm) in length.

B.Nicks
Any number, up to:
  • 0.00098 in. (0.02 mm) in depth
  • 0.0098 in. (0.25 mm) in length.

C.Scratches
Any number, up to:
  • 0.00098 in. (0.025 mm) in depth
  • 0.0098 in. (0.25 mm) in length.

8.Visual inspection of area K:


A.Nicks, dents and scratches
  • If the indication is lower than 0.00098 in. (0.025 mm) deep, the part is serviceable.
  • If the indication is included between 0.00098 in. (0.025 mm) and 0.00197 in. (0.050 mm) deep, a Continued-In-Service of 3000 cycles is permitted before part removal.
  • If the indication is greater than 0.00197 in. (0.050 mm) deep, the part is not serviceable.

9.Visual inspection of area J:


A.Scratches
Any number, up to:
  • 0.0016 in. (0.04 mm) in depth

5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the fan blades and the shields (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-20-400-801) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-44-400-801).
   (3) Remove the MAT - PROTECTIVE from the lower half of the inlet cowl.
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
