WARNING: REMOVE OR INSTALL ONLY THREE STRUCTURAL GUIDE VANES AT A TIME ON AN ASSEMBLED ENGINE. STRUCTURAL GUIDE VANES ARE NECESSARY FOR ENGINE STRUCTURE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS WARNING, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 72-21-02-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Structural Guide Vane
   (1) Find the structural guide vane (1) attached to the rear of the fan case. See the sheet 1 of the figure
F Structural Guide Vane ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (2) Remove the fan exit case liner segment required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1). (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-000-801)
   (3) Remove the outer liner segments required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-05-000-803).
   (4) Remove the inner liner segments required to gain access to the structural guide vane (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-12-000-801).
   (5) Remove each structural guide vane (1) as follows:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (3) and washers (4) that attach the structural guide vane (1) to the fan intermediate case.
     (b) Remove the two screws (19) from the structural guide vane (1) inner diameter surface.
     (c) Remove the two bolts (2), two bolts (5), four nuts (7) and four washers (6) from the outer diameter surface.
     (d) Removal of the shims
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO LET SHIMS FALL ONTO THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, FOD DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
       1 Remove the shims (8) and (9) if necessary.
       2 Record the locations and part numbers of the shims and keep the shims for subsequent installation.
     (e) Remove the structural guide vane (1) from the fan case.
   (6) Installation of the protection covers
CAUTION: INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS ON ALL THE OPENINGS IMMEDIATELY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
     (a) Make sure that you install COVER - PROTECTION as necessary to prevent damage to the engine.
