Installation of the Air Intake Cowl


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE AIR INTAKE COWL. IT WEIGHS 292 LB (132.4 KG). IF IT FALLS, IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

CAUTION: ADJUST THE FAN COWL DOORS WHEN A NEW AIR INTAKE COWL IS INSTALLED. IF THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE NOT CORRECTLY ADJUSTED THE DOORS CAN OPEN IN FLIGHT.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-61-41-941-055-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-61-41-020-058-A
A. Removal of the Protection Covers
   (1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the preformed hoses, blower duct and anti-ice duct.

B. Installation of the Tooling
   (1) Install the 98N7160H001-001 INLET COWL SLING on the air intake cowl (1), follow the user guide manual.
   (2) Lift the 98N7160H001-001 INLET COWL SLING until it supports the air intake cowl (1).

C. Engagement of the Air Intake Cowl
   (1) Remove the bolts (11) and nuts (10), that attach the air intake cowl (1) to the 98N7160H002-000 INLET DOLLY.
NOTE: Remove the top bolt and work down equally on each side when you remove the bolts.
   (2) Discard the bolts (11) and nuts (10).
   (3) Pull the air intake cowl (1) forward to disengage it from the 98N7160H002-000 INLET DOLLY.

D. Installation of the Air Intake Cowl
   (1) Lift the air intake cowl (1) until the attach ring is aligned with engine.
CAUTION: DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE AIR INTAKE COWL, MAKE SURE THAT THE TWO SPIGOTS DO NOT HIT THE ENGINE FLANGE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE FLANGE AND/OR THE SPIGOTS CAN OCCUR.
   (2) Engage the two spigots in the engine flange and make sure that the two spigots do not hit the engine flange.
   (3) Attach the air intake cowl (1) to the engine flange with the 36 new AIPC 71-11-11-10-060 BOLTS (11) and new AIPC 71-11-11-10-070 NUTS (10).
   (4) TORQUE the 36 nuts (10) to between 31.00 and 28.00 lbf.ft (4.20 and 3.80 m.daN )

G. Installation of the Blanking Cap

POST SB LEAP-1A-72-00-0191

   (1) Apply a layer of engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the bolt of the clamp (3).
   (2) Install the CAP - BLANKING (12) on the air intake cowl (1).
   (3) Install the clamp (3) on the CAP - BLANKING (12).
     (a) Install the clamp (3) fastening device (bolt of the clamp) radially inward.
   (4) TORQUE the clamp (3) to between 46.2 and 41.8 lbf.in (0.52 and 0.47 m.daN ) T.

H. Removal of the Tooling
   (1) Remove the 98N7160H001-001 INLET COWL SLING from the air intake cowl (1).
Subtask 71-61-41-420-056-A
I. Connection of the Electrical Connectors
   (1) In the case of the air intake cowl replacement, install the T12 sensor (Ref. AMM TASK 73-21-15-400-801).
   (2) Connect the electrical connector (2) to the T12 sensor.
   (3) Install the filler plugs in the hoist points of the air intake cowl.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
