Installation of the Anti-Ice Access Panel

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that you did the procedure to prevent engine motoring
(Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-833).

B. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 2)
447AL, 448AR.
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.
   (3) Make sure that the anti-ice duct is removed from the inlet cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-000-807).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
Subtask 71-61-14-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Anti-Ice Access Panel
   (1) Removal of the protection covers:
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.

   (2) Install the anti-ice access panel (3) with a form in place seal.
     (a) Remove the sealant from the mating surface of the inlet cowl with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC or equivalent.
     (b) Clean the mating surface with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) and PU2-0001alcohol, isopropyl.
     (c) Remove the PU2-0001alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the alcohol becomes dry.
     (d) Application of two layers of the release agent:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE RELEASE AGENT DOES NOT GET ON OTHER AREAS OF THE THRUST REVERSER DOOR. APPLY THE RELEASE AGENT AWAY FROM THE DOOR OR PUT MASKING TAPE ON THE ADJACENT AREAS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE OTHER SURFACES CAN OCCUR.
       1 Apply two layers of the release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternate release agent (Material No.PU5-0004A) or alternate release agent (Material No.PU5-0004B) to the mating surfaces of the anti-ice access panel (3).
     (e) Let the release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternates fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
     (f) Apply a layer of the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005A) or alternate sealant (Material No.PU3-0005B) to the mating surfaces of the anti-ice access panel (3).
       1 Make a layer between 0.020 in. (0.51 mm) and 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) thick.
       2 Make sure that the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternates do not block the fastener holes for the anti-ice access panel (3).
     (g) Attach the anti-ice access panel (3) to the inlet cowl with the 60 bolts (1) and 60 washers (2).
     (h) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 25 and 20 lbf.in (0.28 and 0.23 m.daN ) T.
     (i) Remove the unwanted sealant with a clean cloth (Material No.
PU1-0001) and PU2-0001alcohol, isopropyl.
     (j) Do not clean the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternates, or release agent (Material No.PU5-0004) or alternates, from below the anti-ice access panel (3).
     (k) Let the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternates fully dry. Refer to the instructions of the manufacturer.
     (l) Remove the bolts (1) and the anti-ice access panel (3).
     (m) Make sure that the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternates makes a smooth, even surface.
     (n) If you find holes in sealant, fill the holes with the PR-2001 rapid cure fuel tank sealant (Material No.PU3-0005) or alternates and do step 4.A.(2)(d) thru step 4.A.(2)(n) again.
     (o) Attach the anti-ice access panel (3) to the inlet cowl with the 60 bolts (1) and the 60 washers (2).
     (p) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN ) T.

   (3) Install the anti-ice access panel (3) with the gasket (4).
     (a) If there is unwanted sealant on the inlet cowl, remove it as follows:
       1 Remove the unwanted sealant from the mating surface of the inlet cowl with the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC or equivalent.
       2 Clean the mating surface with a clean cloth (Material No.
PU1-0001) and PU2-0001alcohol, isopropyl.
       3 Remove the PU2-0001alcohol, isopropyl with a clean cloth (Material No.PU1-0001) before the alcohol becomes dry.
     (b) Attach the anti-ice access panel (3) to the inlet cowl with the gasket (4), 60 bolts (1) and 60 washers (2).
     (c) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 35 and 31.5 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.36 m.daN ) T.

   (4) Install the inner and outer seal housings and seals (
Ref. AMM TASK 71-61-15-400-801).
