A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for ground maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

D. Get Access
   (1) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

4. Procedure
Subtask 71-21-11-020-071-A
A. Preparation for the Removal
   (1) Remove the Variable Bleed Valve (VBV) ducts 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-80-000-801).
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the VBV grids.
   (2) Remove the strut 1 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-03-000-801).
NOTE: The strut 1 removal support can be let in place.
   (3) Install TAPE - ADHESIVE to protect engine case lugs.
   (4) Disconnect the connectors of the harnesses HJ8A (13) and the harness HJ8B (12) from the connector plate.
   (5) Remove the harness (11), the harnesses HJ8A (13) and (14), and the harness HJ8B (12) from the clamps on the bracket (10).
   (6) Move the harness (11), (12), (13) and (14) away from the thrust link.
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the harness (11) and (14).
   (7) Remove the bracket (10).
   (8) Install a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) below the thrust link clevis for protection.

B. Removal of the Right Forward Mount Thrust Link
   (1) Install the 98D71203018000 THRUST LINK R/I FOR CFM on both sides. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (2) Remove and discard the two cotter pins (6).
   (3) Remove the two nuts (5) and washers (4).
   (4) Remove the two bolts (1) and washers (2).
   (5) Remove the two pins (3).
     (a) Use the thrust link pin removal (98D71203018048) to remove the pin (3) from the forward mount assembly (8) and the thrust link (7), and from the assembly of the engine case (9) and the thrust link (7). Refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
   (6) Removal of the thrust link (7) from the engine case (9) and forward mount assembly (8).
     (a) Safely support the thrust link (7) and keep it away from the other engine components.
     (b) To remove the thrust link (7), move its aft and forward ends in sequence:
       1 Move slightly outward the aft end of the link.
       2 Move slightly inward the forward end of the link.
       3 Repeat the steps 4.B.(6)(b)1_ and 4.B.(6)(b)2_ until you can free the thrust link from the two clevis.
