Installation of the Fan Cowl Strake
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION:
DO NOT EXTEND THE SLATS WHEN THE FAN COWLS AND THE THRUST REVERSER COWLS ARE OPEN. IF YOU DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT CAN OCCUR.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 71-13-15-010-058-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

B. Get Access
(1) Get access to the fan cowl door.
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE is in position.

A. Installation of the Fan Cowl Strake
PRE SPOL BD-FC-17001
PRE SPOL BD-FC-17002
(1) If necessary, remove the sealant from the fan cowl door strake fastener holes (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-810).
(2) Clean the fan cowl strake (1) and mating surfaces of the fan cowl strake (1). Use GENERAL CLEANING AGENT - MULTI PURPOSE (Material No.CPNCL02589) and LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
(3) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant - General Purpose Interfay (Material No.CPNCL01237) on the strake base.
(4) Put the fan cowl strake (1) in position on the fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the unwanted sealant.
(6) Let the sealant cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the cure time.
(7) Remove the fan cowl strake (1).
(8) If damaged, replace the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) .
(a) Apply the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) on the fan cowl skin.
(9) Put the fan cowl strake (1) in position on the fan cowl door.
(10) Install the fan cowl strake (1) with the new AIPC 71-13-80-02-030 BOLTS (2).

(1) If necessary, remove the sealant from the fan cowl door strake fastener holes (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-810).
(2) Clean the fan cowl strake (1) and mating surfaces of the fan cowl strake (1). Use GENERAL CLEANING AGENT - MULTI PURPOSE (Material No.CPNCL02589) and LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
(3) Apply a thin layer of Polysulfide Sealant - General Purpose Interfay (Material No.CPNCL01237) on the strake base.
(4) Put the fan cowl strake (1) in position on the fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the unwanted sealant.
(6) Let the sealant cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the cure time.
(7) Remove the fan cowl strake (1).
(8) If damaged, replace the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) .
(a) Apply the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) on the fan cowl skin.
(9) Put the fan cowl strake (1) in position on the fan cowl door.
(10) Install the fan cowl strake (1) with the new AIPC 71-13-80-02-030 BOLTS (2).
NOTE: Use the correct bolt length in order to obey the fastener installation rules described in SRM 514200.
(11) TORQUE the bolts (2) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )
. NOTE: Brush-seal the fasteners with MASTINOX D40 (Material No.CPNCL00338) .

B. Installation of the Fan Cowl Strake

(1) If necessary, remove the sealant from the fan cowl door strake fastener holes (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-040-810).
(2) Clean the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7) and mating surfaces of the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7). Use GENERAL CLEANING AGENT - MULTI PURPOSE (Material No.CPNCL02589) and LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
(3) Apply a thin layer ofCPNCL01237 Polysulfide Sealant - General Purpose Interfay) on the strake base.
(4) Put the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7) in position on the fan cowl door.
(5) Remove the unwanted sealant.
(6) Let the sealant cure. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for the cure time.
(7) Remove the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7).
(8) If damaged, replace the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) .
(a) Apply the RELEASE AGENT QZ 5111 (Material No.CPNCL00245) on the fan cowl skin.
(9) Put the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7) in position on the fan cowl door.
(10) Do the installation of the fan cowl strake:
(a) For the Left Hand (LH) fan cowl door, install the fan cowl strake (4) with the new AIPC 71-13-10-10-760 BOLTS (5) and the washers (6).
1 Use the correct bolt length in order to obey the fastener installation rules described in SRM 514200.
(b) For the Right Hand (RH) fan cowl door, install the fan cowl strake (7) with the new AIPC 71-13-11-10-170 BOLTS (8) and the washers (9).
1 Use the correct bolt length in order to obey the fastener installation rules described in SRM 514200.
(11) TORQUE the bolts (5) and/or (8) to between 1.06 and 0.82 m.daN (93.81 and 72.57 lbf.in )

(12) Brush-seal the fasteners with MASTINOX D40 (Material No.CPNCL00338) .
(13) Remove the access platform(s).

(9) Put the fan cowl strake (4) and/or (7) in position on the fan cowl door.
(10) Do the installation of the fan cowl strake:
(a) For the Left Hand (LH) fan cowl door, install the fan cowl strake (4) with the new AIPC 71-13-10-10-760 BOLTS (5) and the washers (6).

D. Do the Electrical Bonding
(1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant - General Purpose Interfay (Material No.CPNCL01237) andCPNCL00700 ELECTRICAL BONDING COATING (BLUE COLOR) to the two bonding points. Make sure that the screw heads are fully covered. (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
5. Close-up(1) Apply Polysulfide Sealant - General Purpose Interfay (Material No.CPNCL01237) and

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
(a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
