Subtask 71-13-13-941-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 71-13-13-010-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:

B. Get Access
(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

(4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure(1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

(4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
Subtask 71-13-13-220-051-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Do a visual inspection of the Fan Cowl Latches, Fittings and Hinges as follows:
(1) Visual Inspection of the Left Hand Fan Cowl Latches
(a) Examine the fan cowl latches for damage and distortion. If damage is found, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(b) Visually inspect the fan cowl latches for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(c) Examine the fan cowl latches for nicks, scratches, gouges, or excessive wear. If damage or wear is more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) in depth, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(d) Examine the fan cowl latches for a weak spring. If a weak spring is found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(2) Visual inspection of the key and flag and latch bracket
(b) Make sure that there are no signs of corrosion, cracks or damage on the latch bracket.
(c) If one or more of these parts are damaged, replace as necessary.
(3) Visual Inspection of the Right Hand Fan Cowl Adjustable Keepers (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-220-041)
(4) Visual Inspection of the Left and Right Hand Fan Cowl Hinges
(a) Visually inspect the fan cowl hinges for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the hinge.
(b) Make sure that the fan cowl hinges are attached correctly. Tighten or replace the attachment hardware, as necessary.
5. Close-up(1) Visual Inspection of the Left Hand Fan Cowl Latches
(a) Examine the fan cowl latches for damage and distortion. If damage is found, replace the damaged part (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(b) Visually inspect the fan cowl latches for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(c) Examine the fan cowl latches for nicks, scratches, gouges, or excessive wear. If damage or wear is more than 0.01 in. (0.25 mm) in depth, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
(d) Examine the fan cowl latches for a weak spring. If a weak spring is found, replace the latch (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040).
NOTE: A weak handle spring has no effect on the latching mechanism, however it reduces the handle opening angle and its visibility when hanging down.
NOTE: You should use a FLASHLIGHT and an MIRROR - INSPECTION to examine areas of the fan cowl latches that are hard to see.
(e) Make sure that the fan cowl latches are attached correctly. Tighten or replace the attachment hardware, as necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-000-040) and (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-400-040). (2) Visual inspection of the key and flag and latch bracket
CAUTION:
DO NOT USE A KEY WITHOUT FLAG TO OPERATE THE FAN COWL DOOR. DO NOT STOW A KEY WITHOUT FLAG IN THE COCKPIT.
WHEN YOU USE AND STOW THE KEY, MAKE SURE THAT IT HAS A FLAG ATTACHED TO IT.
IF THE FLAG IS MISSING OR DAMAGED, IT MUST BE REPLACED BEFORE THE KEY CAN BE USED OR STOWED AGAIN.
(a) Make sure that the key and flag assembly is not damaged in any way. (b) Make sure that there are no signs of corrosion, cracks or damage on the latch bracket.
(c) If one or more of these parts are damaged, replace as necessary.
(3) Visual Inspection of the Right Hand Fan Cowl Adjustable Keepers (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-13-220-041)
(4) Visual Inspection of the Left and Right Hand Fan Cowl Hinges
(a) Visually inspect the fan cowl hinges for cracks. If any cracks are found, replace the hinge.
(b) Make sure that the fan cowl hinges are attached correctly. Tighten or replace the attachment hardware, as necessary.

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040):

(5) Remove the access platform(s).
(6) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-040):

(5) Remove the access platform(s).
(6) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
