(1) Make sure that the horizontal stabilizer pitch trim control is set to zero.
(2) Make sure that the elevators touch their travel limit stops.

(1) Depressurize the Green, Blue and Yellow hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).

(1) Put the 98D27903500000 PIN-SIDE STICK LOCKING in the CAPT and F/O side stick controllers.

(1) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the flight compartment to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the hydraulic systems.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position, at zones 314, 334 and 344.
(4) Put on and attach a safety harness before you start work in the work area

F. Access
(1) Open the access door 314AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-23-010-801).
(2) Be careful not to step on a closed access door.
(3) Set the light switch to on.
(4) Remove aprons 333AT 333AB 343AT and 343AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-15-11-000-001).
(5) Remove trailing edge panels 334AT 344AT 334AB 344AB (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-000-001).

Subtask 55-16-38-020-050-A

A. Removal of the Fittings and Support Bearings

Support Bearings - Horizontal Stabilizer Removal/Installation

(1) Remove the fittings (1) at the pivot points of the horizontal stabilizer (Ref. AMM TASK 53-56-11-000-001).
(2) Remove the horizontal stabilizer support bearings.
(a) Remove the sealing rings (2).
(b) Release the tab washers (4) and (7).
(c) Use 98D55109009000 WRENCH, GROOVE NUT to remove the ring nut (8).
(d) Remove the tabwasher (7).
(e) Remove the bearing (6) from the bearing housing (5).
(f) Use 98D55109009000 WRENCH, GROOVE NUT to remove the ring nut (3).
(g) Remove the tabwasher (4).
(h) Use 98D27407505000 EXTRACTOR - CENTERING BUSH, THS to remove the bearing housing (5).
