B. Get Access
(1) Put the THS to the zero position (Ref. AMM TASK 27-41-00-220-003).
(2) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flight controls.
(3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below zones 312 and 314.
(4) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the THS.
(5) Open access door 312AR.
(6) Open access door 314AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-23-010-801).
(7) Open trailing edge access-panels 334AB, 344AB, 334AT and 344AT (Ref. AMM TASK 55-13-11-000-001).
(8) Remove the fuselage tail cone (Ref. AMM TASK 53-58-11-000-006).
(9) Remove the THS aprons (Ref. AMM TASK 55-15-11-000-001).
(10) Remove the fairings of the THS (Ref. AMM TASK 53-55-13-000-001).
(11) Remove the diagonal support struts (Ref. AMM TASK 53-53-11-000-002).

4. Procedure
Subtask 53-56-11-020-050-B

A. Removal of the Support Fittings

NOTE: The removal procedures given are for the left Support Fittings. The removal procedures for the right Support Fittings are almost the same.

(1) Remove and discard the cotter pin (43).
(2) Remove the locking cap (42), the nut (41) and the washer (40).
(3) Remove the bush (15) and the bolt (16).
(4) Pull the Y-bolt (17) out of the sleeve (18).
(5) Install the 98D27408406000 STRUT-DISTANCE FRAME 77 as follows:
(a) Put the distance struts in position between the left and the right upper and lower cross beam sections at FR77.
(b) Install the struts on the cross beam sections.
(c) Attach the adapter to the horizontal stabilizer and to the distance strut.
(d) Make sure that there is no load on sleeve (18). Turn the movable spindle unit to make all necessary adjustments.
(6) Install the 98D27407505000 EXTRACTOR - CENTERING BUSH, THS and remove the sleeve (18).
(7) Remove and discard the O-rings (31).
(8) Disconnect the lower floating bearing as follows:
(a) Open the closed edges of the lockwasher (2) and the tabwasher (7).
(b) Remove the nut (1) with the 98AMS172327002 WRENCH-ADAPTER. Remove and discard the lockwasher (2).
(c) Remove the cup washer (22).
(d) Remove the bolt (5).
(e) Remove the nut (30), screw (28) and washers (29).
(f) Remove the bonding jumper (27).
(g) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12).
(h) Remove the nut (9) and the washer (11).
(i) Remove and discard the tabwasher (7).
(j) Remove the retaining ring (3) and the sleeve (6).
(k) Remove the bushes (4).
(9) Disconnect the upper fixed bearing as follows:
(a) Open the closed edges of the lockwasher (2) and the tabwasher (7).
(b) Remove the nut (1) with the 98AMS172327002 WRENCH-ADAPTER. Remove and discard the lockwasher (2).
(c) Remove the cupwasher (22).
(d) Remove the bolt (5).
(e) Remove the nut (30), screw (28) and washers (29).
(f) Remove the bonding jumper (27).
(g) Remove and discard the cotter pin (12).
(h) Remove the nut (9) and the washer (11).
(i) Remove and discard the tabwasher (7).
(j) Remove the retaining ring (3) and the washer (21).
(k) Carefully pull the sleeve (6) out of the link assembly and remove the bushes (20) and the washer (21).
(10) Remove the spacer (13) as follows:
(a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (26).
(b) Remove the nut (25), bolt (24) and washers (10).
(c) Remove the spacer (13).
(11) Remove the links (19) and (23).
(12) Remove the bolts (8) from the link (19).
