Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS

Subtask 54-51-41-941-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).
(2) Install the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION on the flap/slat control lever on panel 114VU.
(3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the flap/slat controls.
(4) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
(5) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(6) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 54-51-41-040-057-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Make sure that the slats are fully retracted (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 54-51-41-010-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
(1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805). C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, at zones 420 and 480.
(2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-804):

(3) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-802):

Subtask 54-51-41-020-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, at zones 420 and 480.
(2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-804):

D. Removal of the Components
(1) Remove the forward fire extinguisher bottle (Ref. AMM D/O 26-21-41-00).
4. Procedure(1) Remove the forward fire extinguisher bottle (Ref. AMM D/O 26-21-41-00).
Subtask 54-51-41-110-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Cleaning of the Structure
(1) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the adhesive compound from the nuts (4) and the collars (1) and (5) of the ball joint on the upper panel between rib 4 and rib 5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if necessary.
Subtask 54-51-41-020-066-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the adhesive compound from the nuts (4) and the collars (1) and (5) of the ball joint on the upper panel between rib 4 and rib 5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if necessary.
B. Disconnection of the Bonding Leads of the Spigot at Rib 6
(1) If necessary, disconnect the bonding leads (24) of the spigot at rib 6:
(a) Remove the bolts (25).
(b) Disconnect the bonding leads (24) from the bonding angles (23) that are installed on the pylon box at rib 6.
Subtask 54-51-41-020-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) If necessary, disconnect the bonding leads (24) of the spigot at rib 6:
(a) Remove the bolts (25).
(b) Disconnect the bonding leads (24) from the bonding angles (23) that are installed on the pylon box at rib 6.
C. Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint
(1) If necessary, remove the screws (8) and (10) and the washers (9) and (11) from the bracket (12) and the clamps (13).
(2) For the left pylon:
(a) Remove the hi-locks (2) and the collars (1) SRM 514200.
(3) For the right pylon:
(a) Remove the hi-locks (6) and the collars (5) SRM 514200.
(b) Remove the bolts (7) and the nuts (4).
(4) Remove the spigot ball joint (3) from the rear upper spar.
(1) If necessary, remove the screws (8) and (10) and the washers (9) and (11) from the bracket (12) and the clamps (13).
(2) For the left pylon:
(a) Remove the hi-locks (2) and the collars (1) SRM 514200.
(3) For the right pylon:
(a) Remove the hi-locks (6) and the collars (5) SRM 514200.
(b) Remove the bolts (7) and the nuts (4).
(4) Remove the spigot ball joint (3) from the rear upper spar.
