Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint

Subtask 54-51-41-941-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 54-51-41-040-056-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 54-51-41-040-056-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
(1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012). B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 54-51-41-010-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
(1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041). C. Get Access
(1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, at zones 420 and 480.
(2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):

(3) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-001):
(a) For the left pylon:

Subtask 54-51-41-020-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
(a) For the left pylon, at zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, at zones 420 and 480.
(2) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):

D. Removal of the Components
(1) Remove the fire extinguisher bottles (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).
4. Procedure(1) Remove the fire extinguisher bottles (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).
Subtask 54-51-41-110-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Clean the Structure
(1) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the adhesive compound from the upper panel between RIB4 and RIB5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if necessary.
Subtask 54-51-41-020-065-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the adhesive compound from the upper panel between RIB4 and RIB5.
(2) Clean the upper panel with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) , if necessary.
B. Disconnection of the Bonding Leads of the Spigot at RIB5
(1) Remove the nuts (13) and the bolts (11).
(2) Disconnect the bonding leads (14) from the bonding angles (12) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB5.
Subtask 54-51-41-020-063-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the nuts (13) and the bolts (11).
(2) Disconnect the bonding leads (14) from the bonding angles (12) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB5.
C. Removal of the Spigot Ball Joint
(1) Remove the nuts (1) and the bolts (4).
(2) Move the brackets (2) and (3) and the cable (5) away to get a better access to the head of the bolts (6) and (7).
(3) Safety the brackets (2) and (3) and the cable (5) with the TIE WRAP(S).
(4) Remove the nuts (10), the washers (9) and the bolts (6) and (7) from the rear upper spar.
(6) Remove the spigot ball joint (8).
(1) Remove the nuts (1) and the bolts (4).
(2) Move the brackets (2) and (3) and the cable (5) away to get a better access to the head of the bolts (6) and (7).
(3) Safety the brackets (2) and (3) and the cable (5) with the TIE WRAP(S).
(4) Remove the nuts (10), the washers (9) and the bolts (6) and (7) from the rear upper spar.
NOTE: You cannot remove two of the 16 bolts (6) and (7) from the top of the rear spar because they touch the spigot fitting edge on the wing side.
(5) Cut the heads of the two bolts (6) and (7) that you cannot remove. (6) Remove the spigot ball joint (8).
