Installation of the Ignition Unit (APS 3200)


WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE IGNITION UNIT IS DE-ENERGIZED AND GROUNDED BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THE INPUT AND OUTPUT LEADS. DO NOT TOUCH THE CONTACTS OF THE OUTPUT TERMINAL. THE OUTPUT VOLTAGE FROM THE IGNITION UNIT IS HIGH AND DOES NOT DECREASE IMMEDIATELY AFTER DE-ENERGIZATION (THE UNIT IS OF THE CAPACITOR DISCHARGE TYPE). HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL YOU.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position below the APU compartment.
   (2) Make sure that APU access doors 315AL and 316AR are open (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (3) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to switch the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch to the ON position.
   (4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

4. Procedure
Subtask 49-41-38-420-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Ignition Unit
CAUTION: -YOU MUST NOT INCREASE THE TIGHTENING TORQUE MORE THAN THE MAXIMUM VALUE.
  • APPLY ALL TIGHTENING TORQUES WITH A TORQUE WRENCH OR A CALIBRATED SCREWDRIVER.
   (1) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (1) with Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine - - (Material No.03ABA1) or Synthetic base Lubricating Oil-Turbine Engine Low Temp. - (Material No.03ABB1) .
   (2) Install the ignition unit (3) with the bolts (1).
   (3) TORQUE the bolts (1) to between 56 and 51 lbf.in (0.63 and 0.58 m.daN ) T.
   (4) Make sure that the igniter cables (2) are in the correct condition:
     (a) Do a check of the igniter cables (2).
     (b) Make sure that the four contact segments of the igniter cables (2) are clean and not damaged.
     (c) If you find signs of damage, replace the igniter cables (2) (
Ref. AMM TASK 49-41-43-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-41-43-400-002).
   (5) Connect the igniter cables (2) to the ignition unit (3).
   (6) TORQUE the igniter cables (2) to between 148.5 and 121.5 lbf.in (1.68 and 1.37 m.daN ) T.
   (7) Remove the CAP-BLANKING from each electrical connector and receptacle.
   (8) Make sure that all the electrical connections are clean and in the correct condition.
   (9) Connect electrical connector P10 (4) to the ignition unit (3).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the APU access doors 315AL 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
