A. Detailed Inspection of the APU Air Intake, Diffuser Elbow, Seals and Felt Metal
(1) Clean the APU air-intake flap, the air intake duct internally and the APU doors with Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Gel Type - (Material No.08ABD1) and the BRUSH - BRISTLED.
(2) Let the cleaning agent stay on the surfaces for 30 minutes.
(3) Flush the cleaning agent from the surfaces with the CLEANING EQUIPMENT - STEAM at the maximum temperature of 130 deg.C (266.00 deg.F) and the maximum pressure of 5 bar (72.5189 psi).
(4) Let the surfaces dry for 15 minutes.
(5) Open APU access door 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
(6) Examine the flexible seals (5), (8) and (10) for wear, tears and porosity. If necessary, replace them.
(7) Make sure that the seal (5) is in the correct condition.
(8) Measure the height of the seal (8) in the expanded condition. It must be 20 +1.5 mm or -0 mm (0.7874 +0.0591 in. or +0.0000 in.). If not, replace the seal (8).
(9) Close APU access door 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
(10) Make sure that the distance between the APU plenum (12) and the flanges of the elbow assembly (7) is 18 +3 mm or -3 mm (0.709 +0.118 in. or -0.118 in.). If the clearance is incorrect, do the adjustment of the air intake diffuser and elbow (Ref. AMM TASK 49-16-45-400-002).
(11) Make sure that the APU plenum (12) and the elbow assembly (7) are aligned to the center on all the perimeter with a tolerance of +/- 4 mm (+/- 0.158 in.). If they are not correctly aligned, adjust the APU plenum and elbow assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 49-16-45-400-002).
(12) Make sure that there are no signs of de-icing contamination. If you find contamination, clean the APU compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 49-00-00-100-002).
(13) Air intake system
(a) Examine the external and internal surfaces of the air intake system for delamination, distortion and cracks.
(b) Examine the diverter for damage.
(c) Examine the air intake system for damage from ice particles, corrosion, erosion or unwanted objects.
1 Do a check of the damping plate.
A damage is permitted when:
(d) Do a tap check:
(14) Do a tap check for delamination on the external sandwich structure of the air inlet duct (3). Do this check at distances of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) in rows of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) apart.
5. Close-up(1) Clean the APU air-intake flap, the air intake duct internally and the APU doors with Aqueous Cleaner-Aircraft Exterior Gel Type - (Material No.08ABD1) and the BRUSH - BRISTLED.
- The maximum dimensions of the damage is: width 2 mm, length 5 mm, depth 1 mm.
- The damage has no effect on inner surface of the plate.
- The outer surface adjacent to the damage area has no cracks, delamination or other damage.
(d) Do a tap check:
CAUTION:
BEFORE YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GSE-TOOL, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE APPLICABLE GSE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. WHILE YOU OPERATE THIS TOOL, CAREFULLY OBEY THEM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
1 Do a tap check with a 98A57103013000 TAP TEST-TOOL for delamination on all of the felt metal surfaces of the air intake system, the guide surfaces and the guide vanes (6). Do this at distances of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) in rows 20 mm (0.7874 in.) apart. (14) Do a tap check for delamination on the external sandwich structure of the air inlet duct (3). Do this check at distances of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) in rows of 20 mm (0.7874 in.) apart.
NOTE: No delamination, distortion or other damage is permitted.
