Removal of the Reduction Gearbox

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
(1) In the cockpit, on the panel 400VU put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear control lever.
(2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
(3) On the panel 110VU, make sure that the free fall control handle is folded into the center console.
(4) Install SHIM - WOODEN on each side of the free fall control handle to lock the handle in position.

B. Get Access
(1) Open the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
(2) Open the lateral avionics-compartment door 822.
(3) Remove the cockpit floor panel 211FF (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-11-000-001).
(4) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position in zone 123.
(5) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position below the lateral avionics-compartment door 822.

C. Installation of the Rigging Pins

Reduction Gearbox - Component Location

(1) In the nose landing gear well, put the tool 98A27901002000 PIN-RIGGING,RUDDER CONTROL (9) in the bottom bellcrank (10).
(2) Put the 98A27801001000 RIGGING PIN (1) in position to lock the quadrant (2).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-33-15-020-050-A

A. Removal of the Free Fall Reduction Gearbox
(1) Remove the cotter pin (15), the nut (14) and the washer (13).
(2) Remove the screw (5) and disconnect the rod (8).
(3) Cut and remove the lockwire from the screw (19). Remove the screw (19) and the washer (18).
(4) Remove the cotter pin (20), the nut (21) and the washer (22).
(5) Remove the cable guide (23) and the shims (24) and (17).
(6) Remove the pins (12) from the cable tension adjusters (11).
(7) To do this, turn the cable tension adjusters (11).
Decrease the tension to release the cable reels (29) and (31).
(8) Remove the cables (29) and (31) from the gearbox (3). Attach the cables to the structure.
(9) Remove the nuts (16) and the bolts (4).
(10) Remove the free fall gearbox (3) from its support and remove the screw (30).
