  • The nosewheel-steering deactivation electrical-box (5GC)
  • The nosewheel-steering hydraulic block (6GC)
  • The vent hole installed at the top of the shock absorber.
     (a) Make sure that the covers you use give sufficient protection during the procedure to clean the NLG.
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-21-00-100-050-A
A. Cleaning of the Nose Landing Gear
CAUTION: DO NOT USE HIGH-PRESSURE SPRAYING EQUIPMENT TO CLEAN THE LANDING GEAR AND THE LANDING GEAR BAYS. IF YOU USE HIGH-PRESSURE EQUIPMENT, THIS CAN CAUSE WATER TO GO INTO ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Remove mud with the SPONGE soaked in water and the SCRAPER - PLASTIC or the SCRAPER - WOODEN.
   (2) Compressed air procedure:
WARNING: WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR:
  • USE THE CORRECT PROTECTION (FACE SHIELD OR GOGGLES)
  • DO NOT POINT THE AIRFLOW AT YOURSELF OR OTHER PERSONS.
LOOSE PARTICLES AND/OR HIGH PRESSURE AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY.
     (a) Dry the areas where you removed mud with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY or a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Application of the cleaning agents:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE CLEANING AGENTS OR SOLVENTS DO NOT GET IN OR ON :
  • COMPONENT PARTS
  • PROTECTIVE COVERS
  • ELECTRICAL WIRING AND CONNECTORS.
     (a) Clean the NLG with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) . Use one of the items that follow to clean the NLG:
  • The SPONGE
  • A clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1)
  • The BRUSH - BRISTLED
  • The SPRAYING EQUIPMENT - LOW PRESSURE.
Start the cleaning from top of the NLG.
   (4) Dry the NLG with the AIR SOURCE 0.3 TO 0.7 BAR (5 TO 10 PSI)- FILTERED, DRY or a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (5) Use the PAINTBRUSH or SPRAYING EQUIPMENT - LOW PRESSURE to apply Corrosion Preventive Compound-Water Displacing Oily Film System (Material No.12ABE2) on the areas where the corrosion preventive compound was removed during the cleaning procedure.
   (6) Lubricate the items that you have cleaned (Ref. AMM TASK 12-22-32-640-002).
Subtask 32-21-00-100-051-A
B. Clean the Chromium Surfaces
   (1) Remove the covers that you put on the chromium surfaces of the NLG.
   (2) Clean the chromium surfaces with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) .
NOTE: It is not recommended to use Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) to clean the chromium surface of the NLG sliding tube. If necessary, use only a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to clean the NLG sliding tube.
     (a) If Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) is used to clean the chromium surface of the NLG sliding tube:
  • Restore the NLG sliding tube with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
   (3) Apply the hydraulic fluid as follows:
     (a) Do not apply Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) to the chromium surface of the NLG sliding tube.
     (b) Put a small quantity of Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) on a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
     (c) Apply a thin layer of Phosphate Ester Hydraulic Fluid-General Power - - (Material No.02ABA1) only to the chromium surfaces of:
  • The NLG gear actuating-cylinder
  • The NLG downlock actuator.
