Detailed Inspection of RAT Assembly and Doors in Deployed Position and Lubrication of Doors Linkage Strut Joints and Bearings

WARNING: PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
  • THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
  • THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
  • COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
MOVEMENT OF COMPONENTS CAN KILL OR CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE CONTROLS AGREE WITH THE POSITION OF THE ITEMS THEY OPERATE BEFORE YOU PRESSURIZE A HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED ITEMS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE RAT TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR BEFORE YOU EXTEND/RETRACT THE RAT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TOUCH OR MOVE THE RAM AIR TURBINE (RAT). THE RAT BLADES ARE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL AND CAN EASILY BECOME DAMAGED.

4. Procedure
Subtask 29-22-51-210-076-C
A. Detailed Visual Inspection of the RAT and the Doors in the Deployed Position
   (1) Make sure that the door links are correctly attached to the leg assembly and to the RAT doors.
   (2) Use the VACUUM CLEANER to remove the contamination from the ball bearings (3) and (6) and the link parts (4) and (5).
NOTE: The BLOWING EQUIPMENT - DRY AIR can be used if the VACUUM CLEANER is not available.
   (3) Examine the RAT door link assembly:
  • The door link rods
  • The door link fork ends
  • The door link eye ends.
For contamination, damage or are bent.
NOTE: The RAT door link assembly and both ends must be clean and straight. No bends are acceptable.
   (4) Examine the RAT doors for cracks, corrosion and any other damage.
   (5) Apply the Silicone base Grease-Mechanisms and Seals - - (Material No.03JCA9) or the Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Metallic Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03HBC1) to:
  • The ball bearings (3) and (6)
  • Contact area between the link parts (4) and (5).
   (6) Make sure that the movable parts of the door struts links are fully greased.
   (7) Retract and deploy the RAT three times (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-869-005) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-869-006).
